Huawei's foldable smartphone expected to launch in October, an upgraded version to follow
It looks like the foldable concept was not ready for primetime, as both Samsung and Huawei had to delay their devices for various reasons. Although it started from pole position, Huawei lost the chance of being the first company to launch a foldable smartphone, as Samsung has already released the Galaxy Fold in South Korea and plans to bring it to more countries by the end of the month.
Last week at IFA 2019, Huawei Business Group Chairman Richard Yu said that his company intends to launch the Mate X sometime in October. He also revealed plans to launch an improved version of the Mate X soon after, DigitalTrends reports.
The improved version of the Mate X will feature a new chipset, most likely the Kirin 990, which includes 5G support as well. Now, if you would rather wait for the enhanced Mate X, Yu said that the device won't be available until several months after the original model hits shelves.
Meanwhile, Huawei is readying the Mate 30 series announcement, which is slated to happen on September 19. Of course, none of these phones are coming to the US, and some of them might not be powered by Google's Android OS.
We were going to sell the Mate X last month, but we postponed that. Maybe we will start to sell the Mate X next month. We are also considering an upgrade to the new chipset.
