Huawei's first 5G smartphone will also be foldable
Huawei, the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer by volume, has been teasing its first 5G smartphone for quite some time. Likewise, the company has also made no secret of its plans to introduce a new foldable device next year. And now, in an interesting turn of events, it turns out that these two devices are actually just one.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Huawei’s rotating Chairman Ken Hu admitted that the company’s first 5G-ready smartphone will actually be a foldable device too. Moreover, it was confirmed that the new device is on track to arrive by mid-2019, which coincides perfectly with the brand’s previous comments that confirmed a 5G smartphone would arrive by June 2019.

Interestingly, this does dispel rumors of a foldable phone this year. Previously, it has been reported numerous times that Huawei would attempt to beat Samsung to market by launching its first foldable device this November. However, it now seems as though the company will be taking some extra time in order to improve the device and, ultimately, integrate 5G support.

Unsurprisingly, no information regarding the pricing or the spec sheet of this device has been announced. But regardless of this, next year is undeniably shaping up to be one of the biggest years in recent history when it comes to the smartphone market.
