Huawei P30 'series' announcement event is officially scheduled for March 26
For the longest time, we assumed Huawei's next-gen flagship phones would be unveiled at the 2019 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month. Even Samsung reportedly took that possibility into consideration when scheduling its latest Unpacked event several days before the start of the MWC trade show to make sure the Galaxy S10 family will beat the Huawei P30 series to the limelight.

But just like last year, the world's second-largest smartphone vendor has different plans from the rest of the industry, looking to do its own thing on March 26 in Paris. The date, vaguely teased by the company's Polish branch a couple of weeks ago, is now firmly set in stone, along with a glamorous venue where the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro saw daylight in March 2018.

Huawei's official event confirmation on Twitter is accompanied by a seemingly generic 10-second teaser video taking us on a tour of some of the most popular tourist attractions in the capital of France. But on second glance, you'll probably realize those beautiful images of the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, and Notre-Dame Cathedral are meant to highlight the advanced zooming capabilities of the upcoming Huawei P30 "series."

The Huawei P20 Pro can already use its three rear-facing cameras to deliver impressive 5x "hybrid zoom" functionality, while the P30 Pro is naturally expected to take things to the next level by at least matching the refined imaging prowess of the Mate 20 Pro and possibly adding a fourth sensor into the mix for 3D ToF (Time-of-Flight) tricks. That might mean the "regular" Huawei P30 will be upgraded from two to three rear shooters, presumably capable of capturing zoomed pictures with the same clarity as the Pro variant.

We'll obviously have to wait and confirm everything that has been revealed about the P30 and P30 Pro so far, as Huawei's buzz-building games begin in fairly cryptical manner today. How exactly does the company plan to "rewrite the rules?" How will hype be maintained for more than a month?
