The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is arguably the most feature-packed smartphone in the world right now, boldly going where Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 didn’t dare to go, but before you decide to pay an arm and a leg for this bad boy (no US warranty included), you may want to check out the latest in-depth JerryRigEverything durability test.

While we’ve grown accustomed to seeing high-end gadgets escape these grueling experiments largely unscathed, Apple’s razor-thin new iPad Pros were recently discovered to be vulnerable to bending.

The Mate 20 Pro handset isn’t quite in the same boat as the 11-inch iOS tablet Zack Nelson was able to snap in half with his bare hands, nonetheless presenting a troubling and unusual structural weakness.

It seems that you don’t have to put much effort into breaking the front glass of the “notchy” 6.4-incher, and once that happens, the rare in-display fingerprint scanner is likely to also stop working.

Obviously, no one is going to try the JerryRigEverything bend test at home, but the aim of this is to reveal build flaws that could potentially lead to durability issues in the long run. Bottom line, you’ll want to be extra careful with how you handle your precious new Huawei Mate 20 Pro and under no circumstances should you leave it in your back trouser pocket when sitting down.

On the bright side of things, this surprisingly fragile flagship phone sports a virtually unscratchable back glass panel. Textured (and squeaky), this will naturally crack on impact with a hard surface, but it cannot be damaged by keys, coins, and even razor blades. We’re talking absolutely no scuff marks in addition to no slipping or fingerprint smudging. Also, the phone’s metal frame is described as “incredibly solid”... for what it’s worth.

Is that worth anything if the front glass is so easily breakable? Will you be snubbing the Huawei Mate 20 Pro due to this newly discovered durability concern?
