HTC U Ultra finally starts getting the Android 8.0 Oreo update

It's been more than eight months since HTC promised the U Ultra will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo, but that's not unusual. If you patiently waited for the update and kept the HTC U Ultra, your patience will be rewarded soon because the Taiwanese handset maker has just started the roll-out of Android 8.0 Oreo for HTC U Ultra.

For the time being, three countries are getting the update: Taiwan, India, and Italy. However, we can safely assume the update will arrive in more markets in the coming weeks, so keep tapping that Update button from time to time.

Here are some details that will prepare you for when the update becomes available in your country. First of all, the file weighs in at 1.6GB, so it's a fairly sizable download. Make sure you have enough free storage before attempting to update to Android 8.0 Oreo.

Also, the update contains the January security patch, a bit older if you ask me. The changelog mentions some “system enhancements,” but other than that there's nothing else listed beside “Android 8.0 Oreo.”

Alongside HTC U Ultra, two other smartphones have been confirmed to receive Android Oreo updates at some point: HTC U11 and HTC 10. Both have already received the update, so it looks like it's “mission complete” for HTC.
