HTC U Ultra / Ocean Note to have the 12 MP camera of Google's Pixel
HTC is officially hosting a press event later this week, on January 12, when it's likely going to announce (at least) two new smartphones.

According to recent rumors, the two upcoming handsets are the HTC U Ultra (codenamed Ocean Note) and the HTC U Play.

Earlier today, we saw a series of leaked images allegedly showing the HTC U Ultra / Ocean Note, while also learning that the handset could feature a Snapdragon 835 processor and a dual rear camera. However, it looks like these aren't the real features of the device.

Venture Beat reports that the HTC U Ultra / Ocean Note will not have a dual rear camera. Instead, it's going to use the same 12 MP camera that's found inside the Google Pixel and Pixel XL - one of the best smartphone cameras currently on the market, according to pretty much everyone. The camera software on the Ocean Note will be tweaked by HTC, so image quality and overall performance should be different from what we're getting with the Pixel camera (it remains to be seen if this is for the better, or for the worse).

As for the processor inside the HTC U Ultra / Ocean Note, a source "familiar" with HTC's plans has it that this is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, not the newer and more powerful Snapdragon 835.

Processor and camera aside, the HTC U Ultra / Ocean Note may sport a 5.7-inch Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) main display, in addition to a secondary, much smaller screen above it (à la LG V20). The handset should run Android 7 Nougat out of the box, further featuring 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal memory, and a generous battery (possibly a 4000 mAh unit). The photos seen below seemingly confirm the fact that the upcoming HTC phone has a regular display plus a secondary ticker screen, and a single rear camera.

For now, we can't vouch for any of the details revealed here, but we're certainly looking forward to seeing exactly what HTC will announce on January 12.
