HTC Titan II camera samples - how the 16-megapixel photos look

0. phoneArena posted on 09 Jan 2012, 17:35

During CES 2012, we had the chance to snap some sample photos with the HTC Titan 2. We've taken them at the full 16-megapixel resolution and we share them with you here...

Not too impressed with these. It's too bad too, I really wanted it to be great.

Looks like the colors may be better and not so bright and washed out, but hard to tell any more in the resized photos...that even at their full size could be considered thumbnails of a 16M image. Photos are very blocky, would need real resolution to compare. Should have had 4-6 in full resolution instead of 16 that don't really compare anything but brightness.

The images are in their original resolution. Once you click an image, it will open the popup gallery. In it, use the zoom navigator to zoom to 100%.

I wonder who makes the lenses for HTC phones? I have always noticed the photos taken with the phones turn out darker than say iphone or Galaxy S2.

another s**t "high end megapixal" camera phone. why don't they just give a like a real quality optic carl ziess 5 megapixel or something instead of some fake megapixel count. a high megapixel count is so over rated. i don't think most people even look at the number of megapixels anymore. they just look at reputation of known quality camera makers. when i think of quality camera phone pictures, usually sony and nokia come to mind. hopefully the new sony announced today will not let us down with the "12" megapixel. that is our last hope for great camera phones coming out the first half or 2012.

Great camera and probably a great phone, just such a pity the wp os will cripple it sales wise. We've sold about one of the Htc titan in my shop, nobody wants it because of the os.

The way I interpret your comment is that for sales people you guys aren't too good selling. But that's my impression of your comment. I would find it more credible had you said you sold two. :)

i sold 3 HTC Radars over the weekend. Granted I sold every WP7 that was sold this weekend, but it was slow at our location. You cant sell the titans? come on!! :)

BTW, that nokia 710 is darn nice for a "cheap" smartphone. Makes me wanna get my paws on the 900.

Come on HTC. Invest in good lenses for your smartphone. Even the dinosaur N8 is brutally better than this. The sample may be equal to I4s but it lacks clarity and depth.

Not being an hater here because this DOES look like a nice phone but COME ON. People rip on Android for releasing successor phones every month and look at this. This IS the same phone with just an upgraded camera. And judging based on those photos, they look nice but they aren't mind blowing and I can bet you they won't be when the final product is released. Another fail is the fact that Windows Mobile 7 is restricted to 720p only. You might not care but it's still a fail IMO when you have a monster of a 16 megapixel camera that can't even record to 1080p. Honestly, same processor, same windows UI, same screen resolution(480 by 800 on a 4.7 inch display YIKES).

Wake up...it's not a windows mobile.
It's a Windows Phone 7.5

Alright. Pretty good. But again.. trying to trick people here. 16 MP in a phone? Totally not necessary. How many people actually take pics on a phone to PRINT or zoom and EDIT? To be honest, compressing an image of 16 MP down to 2 MB size is like buying a Lamborghini then driving it in sand. DSLR cameras justify the high megapixel count because of a huge sensor. Phone cameras? I think 8MP is enough. It's a smartphone. Supposed to help you in "daily activities", not make you pretend to be a professional photographer.

HTC Phones also look a tad ugly. However, Windows Phone 7.5 actually looks very good on bigger screens.

HTC cameraphones still have the problems of purple hue and oversharpen but nonetheless they are still pretty good cameraphones. in my opinion, the camera quality should be Nokia>Sony>Samsung>HTC>LG (not to say Iphone because the lens is from Sony)

i am more looking forward for the photo from Lumia 900

i dont know if i heard wrong, but i thought it was not how many mega pixels, but the quality of the lens? So it could have 50 mega pixels but the image quality would still not compare to a camera with an inferior lens...

I think most of the people here commenting never even bothered to look at the pictures in detail. They just assumed that because it's a phone it can't be any good.

If they took the time to go to the picture viewer and put their mouse over the picture on the upper left, they would have seen a magnified version of their mouse location on the right. They could have compared the same picture between the HTC and Canon.

There is no doubt that the Titan II has more resolution in the photos than the Canon camera. I looked at Palm tree branches, telephone wires, signs, etc. In every case, the Titan was clearer. It was darn impressive!

I would say that the exposure level could use some improvement, but that's a software fix. This thing's got some potential.

Titan II vs N8 vs Ion. Actually, don't even bother, we all know the N8 is going to win.
