Years ahead, uhhh No, it's neither mid range SOC. A9 is good CPU and great GPU. But certainly not years ahead. Mali T880 will match GPU performance, sadly no one has started using it yet. (Nexus) 5X is mid range phone. It used to be 1GB that was sufficient according to every iphone user few months ago. Many phones are doing as good or better than iphone. Iphone 6S and 6S plus are good phones not best ones and certainly not mid rangers. They need better quality screens, modems, screen to body ratio and fast charging (wireless would be good too).

I am not trolling, I love some apples products particularly macbook air, macbook pro 15, ipad air 2. But I don't like how they price their few items (just based on sales), how they call everything an innovation that clearly isn't, some idiotic stuff they do (layered battery in new macbook) and how they focus on few things and totally ignore others (thickness vs battery and bezels).

It depends on how you classify mid range. The iphone has mid range specs but performance is great. Considering genetically it is mid range, it's mid range regardless of the performance. You can't just ignore specs like the majority of the population, you, and Apple want us to. If it costs them mid range prices they should price it mid range instead of raping the customers for a tune of 20 billion and have people like you brush off specs. It's all about the Benjamins. Using your example, if the PS3 cost $1000 plus like high end PC's do, then you can't ignore the specs. You should get what you paid for. Apple prices more than a Note 5 or Nexus 6P and Sony doesn't price the PS3 like a 2 tb Geforce GPU with a core i7 cpu. That's the difference and that is why specs do and should matter.

That's a very narrow minded way to judge devices. What's actually important is whether you get a high end experience. With iOS and the iPhone, you certainly do. Do you get a high end experience from a £500 Android phone? No you don't, because you can get broadly the same experience on a £125 Android phone. Specs don't matter, the overall user experience and value proposition does.

So, all the performace reports of the 6S and 6S Plus are wrong? They actually have midrange performace rather than high end performance?

The Nexus 5X packs a bigger screen and an SD808 for $379. So they're asking $300 more for aluminum construction?

That's a good comparison. I don't know how can they justified such a price tag.

Man, HTC going out without a whimper. I almost don't even care about it looking like an iPhone, the fact that they are going to be charging a premium price for a midrange phone is much more upsetting. What the hell were they thinking?

I don't think there's any way HTC will be offering "just" a midrange phone for that price, that would be ludicrous. Even the M9 has higher specs at a lower price. I think a lot of commenters here are a bit too giddy to cheer on the absurdity of the (apparent) situation without admitting there may be something we're missing... At any rate, whatever marketing ploy HTC has up their sleeves to go along with this, they won't fail due to lack of specs (nobody outside the tech-world knows or cares about the difference between a Snapdragon and an Exynos, much less a 615 and an 810), they will fail because HTC lacks the resources to go toe-to-toe with Samsung, Apple, LG, and Huawei, and that's apparently all they know how to do.

Snapdragon 615 = FAIL! HTC must think we are idiots to buy this overpriced POS.

And people call the Moto X a midranger. Nothing running a Snapdragon 615 can be called high-end. Just wait until they benchmark this fancy middling iClone.

HTC has gone cuu-cuu for Cocoa Puffs, clearly.

The only 2 things about this phone that doesn't look like an iPhone are the camera placement in the center (although the camera itself looks like that of an iPhone, barely protruding) and the Samsung-like home button. HTC One A9? They wish it had Apple's A9 chip inside of it.

I agree, HTC should have done something different. This is absolutely a disappointment and especially the the price. For someone who needs a quick phone to run this is just fine actually . I don't have a high end device an I do fine with everything except some pictures conditions. On the other side HTC is falling apart. What they should do is join forces with another company, tweak the name of the handset and release something insane. But like others have mentioned this is a nail in the ⚰. Sad ☹. I remember the HTC P6000 with the keyboard was such a good phone for its time and the following phones released too but now a days they need to step up the game. I sure hope this is not the HERO device.
