HP's reputation is buying companies and sitting them down. I miss webOS....

I don't know if HP has the stomach to make smartphones. That whole deal with Palm seemed a bit half-hearted. If they're going to make phones now, they have to give the impression that they'll be in it for the long run. And please, no more tiny phones! Whoever thought the Veer was going to be a hit should have been fired!

I think they have the ability to get a share in the market. They just need to show they have a plan to keep them in pat the first round and that they are all in with no fear. if they flinch out hesitate they are done. they will be competing against too many well established big names.

That would require a competent CEO.. which Meg Whitman is the furthest thing from.

Let's all remember guys that HP sold WebOS to LG! So, no WebOS device from HP in the future. They will definetely go with Android and give WP a try too. I hope LG takes advantage of WebOS and release several devices with that fantastic OS.

LG has no intention of building WebOS handsets. Their is no way they try and build an OS from scratch. They purchased that amazing, and well loved by a handful of us, operating system to use in their huge line of appliances. I have no clue if they have utilized it yet.

i think hp would make a dent if they sell a 4.5"-4.?" screen phone that is modeled after the way the pre looked, but make it without the keyboard. I really enjoyed the palm pre, i was a big upgrade from my blackberry in 2009 and i liked the riverstone/pebble look of the device

I have no problem with this. Most of those involved with the WebOS fiasco are gone. And HP has produced some great hardware over the life of the company. I do think Tablets may be more up their alley, but I would give a cell phone by them a chance.

Recently, I had to dust off my Palm Pre and use it for about a week while waiting for a new cell phone for my wife. WebOS was so much fun. What a waste.

Don't know HP has lost all its momentum with the worst CEO in history. Meg Whitman has to be the most boneheaded CEO selection in the history of industry. She got lucky with eBays business model, but ran it into the ground before being kicked out. Made her lucky, not smart. To run a hardware company like HP after being lucky with a internet one.. is nothing alike. IT rates up with the AOL/T-W merger. So now how will they make their Droid stand out..? Before Nokia, they were given the chance to be the flagship leader for MS and WP.. as they made the best WindowsMObile phones and had a large enterprise customer base. Instead they went with WebOS, and no support, folded handset dept.. and lost their enterprise customer base. The enterprise community could have stayed with them and WM while WP rolled out, like BB customers have been doing. But I digress.. So they will now go with Droid.. How will that work..?

Price..? Doubt it

Build Quality ? Nope. Hard to beat HTC/Samsung/Sony they can only be comparable

Camera ? Although not Droid, Nokia has that market cornered and on WP no less

Form factor..? Maybe.. maybe creative designs, some incorporating QWERTY might get a niche market they could fill. But it will be smaller than the "phlabet" market samsung is dominating.

Win back enterprise clients..? Maybe.. thats the only thing that may work. But like unlike Dell with the DVP & VP they will have to commit to the phone side of things, and support/bundle phones with computer sales for enterprise clients. Doubt they have the right people to pull that off.. See above comments about Meg Whitman..

Personally think HP needs to sell their large format printer business and then sell PC business to Dell, and go Bankrupt.. thats the best that can happen until they rid themselves of Meg Whitman.

NEVER EVER any products from HP....smartphones? Remember ipaq614??? I bought it for about 500EUR in that timehttp://www.phonearena.com/reviews/HP-iPAQ-614-Review_id1927

Because of your rubbish service i never used that phone cause stupid battery was from bad production line - even those you sent me for replacement - 8months was the device running here and there from to service, new devices for exchange, old and new batteries and still the same problem....so for 500eur i just used the phone about a week, than noone of you wanted to refund my money so i gave up...put the phone in the shell...last year i found it, my neigbour had one used from somewhere, i just lend his not original battery and voila, device works fine...i sold it then for 40EUR on ebay - well spend money for your profit.

GOOD LUCK HP, never ever any product from you - only if you gave me one for free cause of this issue.
