you get my point though, no matter how durable glass is, an extremely thin panel is prone to breaking

It's all about how you take care of the phone, and day to day use. You could have the worst screen possible, but if it's taken care of there wont be any scratches/cracks. I have a desk job... Its easy for me, but don't be surprised if your phone gets scratched or cracked if you don't put it in a case with a screen protector.
