Google to layoff even more people at Motorola

After the initial announcement that about 4,000 employees of Motorola were going to be shown the door, it now appears that Google might be looking to part ways with even more people. The company has informed the media that, by the looks of it, even more employees will have to seek other occupation than previously thought, but at least the company's also bumping up the size of the severance charges it's going to pay...

The google and moto merger has not been a good one so fat. They've had to terminate people several times and moto is still shafting customers with updates to several of their flagship phones.

End of the day all these businesses are about money... But it's not like these ex employees are going to be poor am sure they got plenty of money and am sure that severance package will be large.. It would be stupid of any business to keep on people it does not need.

Maybe if Motorola Mobility had some decent androids besides the very first Droid, then maybe their sales wouldve been better and wouldnt of had to worry about being bought out. Every company thats bought out has to worry about the parent company trimming the fat! Besides, there getting severance packages, thats more than can ever be said about the rest of the Americans that are shown the door and denied unemployment while they look for another job but cant find one because they dont speak Spanish.

It's not just motorola: +10000 at Nokia, +4000 at Moto, thousands at HTC etc.... It's bad to be an employee ANY employee right now. Especially in the western world where most (if not all) labour employees are in unemployment for the past 2 years. All these mega-companies are way too big, They need to sell billions of consumer products just to stay afloat. And their f**king owners only care inot making more money, each year they demand more and more. As if having one big mansion isn't enough, a few cars are not enough... When is enough enough?

Look at Moto's phones right now I have to say the measure is necessary to make the company more competitive. And I think Motorola does not have to keep big software development team like other OEMs as they can outsource the job to Google.

Nothing worse then hearing more people are losing jobs. Mergers or take overs usually create excitement when they happen, but the reality is usually something far less special. I understand it, but hate it. Downsizing is a scary, scary time for those is us who have lived through one.

Most of those jobs lost will be overseas.

Does this make any easier to swallow? Doesn't matter where you are at, loosing a job still hurts!

yo snowgator the merger was essential for Android especially HTC to stay in business because of 8 patents google through motorola gave the android oems to keep them protected from Apple.

Does this mean more phones planed for ICS updates won't be receiving them? It won't be surprising if its true.

Google is not a charity organisation, at least they offer generous severance packages. This move is aimed to revitalize the company so they can hire more later.

As if an ex-moto employee ever wants to work for them again or buy any of their products. These ceo's don't get it. Your employees are your first customers!

hiring and firing is normal in every organisation, the difference is how those things are handled. If layoff is handled fairly I think most people will understand. I don't know how Motorola is doing it but looks like they are more generous than other companies.

Don't worry about profit fandroids. Google has enough money to buy the US. Worry about jobs lost.

Moto is loosing money as of lately, you gotta do what you gotta do to make sure the company doesn't go bankrupt. And the U.S. debt alone to other countries is something like 16 trillion, you could take Google Microsoft's and all apples profits and multiply them all by 10 and still not have enough just to pay off the debt alone.

Fire those lazy asses at MOTOROLA . Too lazy to update an unlocked , dual core tegra 2 , 1gb ram high end devices called the Atrix that cost the same as the GS2 , launched the same time as the GS@
