Google changes image on website, Nexus 8 is now the Nexus 7

0. phoneArena posted on 04 Nov 2013, 20:36

On Sunday, we showed you a picture taken straight from the Android website that showed someone using what looked to be a thin-bezeled tablet that was assumed to be the Nexus 8; after all, the LG-V510 had recently received its Bluetooth Certification and while that might still turn out to be a Nexus 8, the picture on the Android website is certainly not a Nexus 8, at least not anymore...

Probably would be cheaper to just return it.

Everything Google posts is intended...they knew the media would drool all over this. Remember the Youtube video leaks of the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013)? Same things is happening here.

I don't like the bezels. LOL... Pretty sure its a nice device, but I like thick bezels at the top and bottom just like I for tops to be thick...nevermind.

Those bezels on the Nexus 8 are sweet action. Glad I held off on the 7. Price it between $300 and $400, and I'm on it.

the icons on the left one look stretched

and realistically, we need bezels on a tablet to be able to hold it comfortably

Yes, and it's very strange that PA didn't notice. I think that the tablet in the picture was just an imaginary tablet. There's no nexus 8 in the works. They took a nexus 7 and stretched the screen in order to remove the top and bottom bezels and make it look cooler. But in real life we know that those bezels are needed (if you own a 7" tablet you know why).
Then, as soon as they realized that there were people speculating on what should have been just a promotional image, they changed it with an image of the real nexus 7, and that's it.

Oh well, what a shame! I guess I should head back to the waiting line for the Ipad mini Retina.
For a moment I had my hopes high for a Nexus 8, as I'm not a fan of apple's closed OS and pricing, but as I'm after an 8" with a ratio of 4:3 and high res. display, that leaves me with only one option now...

why do you want 4:3 instead of 16:9

My main usage of a tablet is web browsing and I think that a 4:3 ratio is better suitable for that.

Even I would prefer a 4:3 screen for reading. But if you are really looking for the aspect ration and reading and dont care much about tech specs, then do you really think its worth spending so much on a IPAD. Why dont you have a look at "HP Slate 8 Pro", ater all its not a rumor(nexus 8) it is true.

After using the iPad mini and Nexus 7 for about 2 weeks I like the 4:3 (or at least something not 16:9 or 16:10) more myself as well. For reading and web browsing it's just a more comfortable experience. Plus, with as large as phones are getting now, the Nexus 7 with its 16:9 ratio actually just comes across as too small. Now, a nexus 8 with say, 8.5-8.9" screen may make me sing a different tune. I don't think an 8" screen would make that big of a difference with the same aspect ratio because essentially it'll just be taller, but not much wider.
