Google Play Store starts suggesting 'free' and 'premium' search filters for some users

Some Android users are reporting seeing 'free' and 'premium' suggestion tags when searching for something on the Google Play Store. Strangely enough, however, these seem to not act as proper filters that would divide paid and free offerings, but rather like tags or keywords to further specify your search, Android Police reports.

A limited number of users have been seeing similar tags since the beginning of 2017, but the feature is now seemingly rolling out on a wider scale. Unfortunately, as of yet at least, the basis on which these "filters" are being suggested is far from consistent, with some searches yielding other suggestions, such as 'no ads' and 'top rated'.

It is unclear whether Google is planning to fully implement search filters with the same functionality, or whether it intends to suggest them as keywords on a per-search basis. Next time you're searching for something on Google Play, keep an eye out for these tags and check them out for yourselves.
