Google Play Points reward program goes official, here is how it works
Google has just made its reward program for Play Store users official. The announcement doesn't really come as a surprise since rumors about such a program surfaced early this month. Unfortunately, although we would have expected Google to kick off the Play Store rewards program in the United States, the search giant has decided otherwise.

Google Play Points reward program is only available in Japan at this moment, and in order to join it, all you need is an Android device that works with Google Play, an account, and a valid payment method.

If you have all of the above, simply tap Menu within your Google Play Store app, choose Play Points and tap Join to enter the reward program. Obviously, you can leave the program whenever you want, but you'll lose all the points, benefits, and perks that you might have earned.

Once you join the Google Play Points reward program, you'll earn points for all Google Play purchases such as paid apps or games, in-app or in-game purchases, in-app or in-game subscriptions, Google Play Books, Google Play Movies, and Google Play Music. Here is how points are calculated:

Bronze level (up to 249 points):
  • 1 point earned for every ¥100 spent

Silver level (250–999 points):
  • 1.25 points earned for every ¥100 spent
  • 1 ¥300 credit for in-app items
  • 1 ¥100 movie rental

Gold level (1,000–3,999 points):
  • 1.5 points earned for every ¥100 spent
  • +1 ¥300 credit for in-app items
  • 2 ¥500 ebook credits
  • +2 ¥100 movie rentals

Platinum level (4,000–14,999 points):
  • 1.75 points earned for every ¥100 spent.
  • +1 ¥300 credit for in-app items
  • +4 ¥500 ebook credits
  • +4 ¥100 movie rentals

Diamond level (more than 15,000 points):
  • 2 points earned for every ¥100 spent
  • +2 ¥300 credits for in-app items
  • +6 ¥500 ebook credits
  • +5 ¥100 movie rentals

Keep in mind that you'll be able to use Google Play Points to get in-app or in-game items, in-app or in-game credits for discounted items, and Google Play Credit. It's also worth mentioning that the Google Play Credit you'll get through the reward program will expire one year after you get them. And no, you can't transfer points between accounts or to someone else.
