Pixel 2 XL proximity sensor issues got a fix, but Google won't release it yet

Alongside the Android 8.0 update, the Pixel 2 and 2 XL got some unexpected "features" - a ton of proximity-sensor related bugs, including phone blockage during calls and the Ambient Display being always on. However, this might change soon, as Google Community Manager Orrin has announced the fix has been found.

Not going to buy any Pixel phones because: (1) the quality is not on par with other top phone manufacturers. (2) the pricing could be even higher than other than Samsung/Huawei's SIMILAR offerings.

I'm afraid to buy a Pixel phone after the Pixel 2. Kinda like how I was afraid of the Note 8 after the Note 7

I have a Pixel 2 XL> Proximity issues from update to Android 8.1 Did the following: Restored to factory settings: no fix Removed screen protector: no fix Today I signed up to the Beta for Android P. Installed and now the sensor is working.... Something has changed in the new Beta release.... My phone comes back when I take away from my ear, something it hasn't done in 2 months.
