google is not an idiot, the nexus tab will definitely be a high end tablet to compete the other OSes like windows 8, ipad3 etc. it will be a high end competitor. ya there might be a low end version that might compete kindle fire, mini ipad, nook tablet etc. but NEXUS TAB will be a HIGH END tab for sure

it should be high end so it could compete with the iPad. and it should also have an affordable price tag to compete with the Kindle Fire.. without one or the other, its gonna fail..

interesting theory.. other than speculations what proof is there? This would be a good way of having a stock ICS tablet without "cannibalizing" tablet sales like some flame articles say. Im not sure i'd go for a 7 inch tablet though. can we go 10 inches for 300? :) Of course, at this price im sure its going to be missing some features. maybe no cameras or something.

Why in the world would google settle for a 7" tab, can't compete with ipad 2. I don't care for apple but google should at least go for a 10" screen. That will be a major competing factor with their ICS tablet. ASUS Prime was no were to be found for Christmas because too many people pre ordered the Tab. Google need to compete with other high ends not just hoping their name will make it high end or just because it is running ICS.

Its no going to be a 7" tab. Most likely a 9.8 or 10" tab. the price is certainly not going to be $199 if its going to be a high end tablet. The price range would be around $450 to $500.

Well if it's made by Samsung, it probably won't be high quality. As they have obviously shown with the last 2 nexi. (Nothing against the Galaxy 10.1) Samsung did right there but I would really like to see an HTC tablet or maybe Motorola. Someone that knows how to build high quality products.

high quality?
samsung makes and uses the best hardware available. Some of us prefer light weight and durable to "easily scratched n dented" tin covering a crapdragon processor.
those who care more about aesthetics than actual use of the device need their head checked.

I think everyone kinda is comparing it to the iPad when it's no longer the top dog. Right now the tablet that is selling the most is the Kindle Fire for high end it is the Asus Transformer. Now of course you take price as a factor along with the fact that you want it to match up to everything else your competitors will come out with later this year. But it would not be foolish at all for Google to come out with a 7" simply because it would outsell both the iPad and the Kindle Fire. If you think about a Nexus device, it will have Android 4.0 and even if it just hast a dual core processor at even around the same price point of the Kindle Fire it would sell like crazy. Especially since we already know a company like Samsung will do the hardware and put Super AMOLED screen on it.

I just don't think it would be ridiculous at all. It would be very impressive actually and it would easily make Android the dominant OS in tablets by the end of 2012. So as a business decision it would not be bad at all. However being a tech geek myself I of course do want more high end and would like the nexus to be with a quad core, NFC, 10.1 screen, light, thin, etc etc. If Google could do both however they would indeed own the tablet market 2012. Way more people have android phones so it's easy to merge the ecosystems and it is a lot easier to move from iOS to Android than it is to move from Android to iOS.

It is just like real estate that is about the location. Same with the tablet. Many detractors. But it will be screen size. 7 inch may be GOOD. But if other size is more optimal, it is a winner.
You may say that there are different tv sets. Yes. But there are different rooms. With tablets, it is all arm lenght.
