Google Duo is proving to have longer legs than the
ill-fated Allo, outperforming its texting app counterpart both it in terms of number of downloads and sustained popularity.
Duo has had it easier right from the get-go, be it because it wasn’t going against as many established competitors, or because it was a more well-rounded package, but
Duo has been doing quite well for what it is.
And now Google’s one-to-one video calling app has passed another important milestone – 50 million downloads on Google Play. Although the number of downloads itself is not indicative of the app’s user attachment rate,
AppAnnie’s historical rank data shows that Duo is maintaining a consistent position in the overall top 250 chart for U.S. apps. It is also currently the 10th most popular Android communications app in the U.S.
