0. phoneArena posted on 18 Feb 2013, 17:20

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates was interviewed this morning on CBS' This Morning and said that not gaining leadership in the smartphone industry means that the way that the company went about entering the business was "clearly a mistake," although you have to wonder what steps Microsoft can take at this stage in the game...

If they wanted Nokia they should have just taken it and ripped it apart to start making there own phone instead putting money into a sinking company and used the money they threw at Nokia for App and Software development for Windows Phone to give it get it to a better point then just being the OS people can't do anything with but Don't get me wrong I like Nokia but they messed up by dumping Meego for Microsoft and NOT giving Android a try cause with there Camera Tech and Phone Built they'd be making a lot of cash and Microsoft just needs to stop it with there MESSED UP updating to there Mobile OS 1: WM6.5 2: WP7.X, I'm kind of not sure if I want to get a WP8 Device cause what if they announce the release of WP9 and tell everybody who got a WP8 Devices the they won't get the Update to the New WP9 OS then where does that leave people Who are Stupid enough to buy a uesless OS when they could just get a iPhone or Android and be done with it.

Glad I'm not the only one who sees WP as a mistake and a poor attempt at a mobile OS to try rival a juggernaut like Android.
I hope they fix this before its too late, although with BB back in the picture it may just be too late.

Anyway, thank you Mr. Gates for admitting what many of us have been thinking.

NO WP wasnt a mistake, the way MS appraoched the phone business in the early 00's is what he was talking about. Everyone forgets Windows Mobile existed YEARS before any other OS. THey took too long to get to WP and realize there mistakes in approaching the market.

Everyone seems to miss.. MS was there FIRST. What he was saying is that they took the wrong approach. They let everyone else design the hardware and they focused on pushing software like with PCs.. That was the wrong approach. Has nothign to do with IOS or Android. Windows Mobile was around YEARS before either.
