Galaxy S IV and the smartphones it will be going up against

0. phoneArena posted on 05 Mar 2013, 05:23

Ever since the first Galaxy S, the series has been a tremendous success for Samsung, which has released a new S-branded handset once every year. And each year, the manufacturer has radically improved the smartphone to include tons of new features and enhancements. To a certain extent, the Galaxy S series has been ahead of the Android pack, both in terms of technology and user experience...

well at some point in an android camp lumia 920 and Z10 (and let say also iPhone 5) is a midrange... and also on the android camp, they really think the bigger screen, the more core the better...

i hope this kind of thinking will be gone... i mean a lot of people question the power of these phones(L920, Z10 i5) because they let them (android) think the specs matters! i just hope they think how these phones will perform on everyday tasks and how the OS is optimize for its hardware.

the great example about these underpowered yet still can perform catch up is the greatest symbian, the 808 PV. yes it dont have full HD screen just nHD! it dont have modern hardware and also dont have boat loads cores and RAM just mere decade-old ARM11 and 512MB RAM...

BUT, it can still perform even with today's standard! it can load the apps same time as what the 2012-2013 highend/flagship can! so i just hope that people will stop thinking that bigger the better, coz it will be truely uncomfortable... and also more core and RAM the better coz a lot of non android (well WP and BB10 even meego N9) can perform great multitasking even its not quad core and 2GB of RAM(PW and MeeGo)

Plus it can record 1080p videos with 4 times loseless zoom!
HDMI out!
Dolby Digital Plus!
Dolby Headphone
Oversampling Technology!

All done on a single core ARM11 CPU and 512MB RAM!

Um, that has been the whole point all along. Improving everything else while maintaining constants such as battery life and functional speed.

You think high resolution screens are free? Of course they take power to run. It is a lot easier making apps open up faster when your screen sucks and there is no technology in your phone.

Tell me why cant a Samsung Galaxy S2 zoom when its recording 1080p videos when it has a dual core cpu? while a 808 with single core old ARM11 cpu can record 1080p plus 4 times loseless zoom?

ATTENTION PHONEARENA: That EVLeaks render was fake a fake as proven by Stefan of Android Authority. Expansys have written to the author and have said that EVLeaks placed his logo on top of their mockup image which he stole and claimed as his own.

we all know that it is a fake..you can clearly see it! but just a note, evleaks has a history of leaking phone photos and it turns out to be the real thing (lumia 920, HTC one and etc.) so thats why it is worth a news!

Number 5 is its most important rival.
maybe SIV can defeat it in number of units that it sells, but Z will not loose the ground easily.

I like the Z out of all the smartphones listed i think true competition will come from the Z and the HTC DNA(or Butterfly) the HTC ONE in my opinion isnt because its looking for a niche market because to me its more of a camera centric

cant wait to see that if that's going to happen hahaha
Xperia Z offer its own unique features compare to other which is a standout to the market "Water & dust Resistance"
S4 may sell great but lets see if it can dethrone the S3 success in numbers.

3 and 5 are real opponents. others are not even close to SIV
i love them all but before the release of SIV i will try Z.

I've read everywhere that Nexus 4 back breaks easily and also that its screen is a little bit dull compared to LG Optimus G and Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X. And its design is based on Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Anybody can see that.

Good healthy competition for companies and very good for customers....Whoever wins the battle, we'll get good phones... :)

Htc One and Xperia Z are both great devices, but there's no doubt that the galaxy s4 and the iPhone5 will outsell them by a lot.

Probably so, but for many people, they will outsell the One and Z for the wrong reasons. Marketing does wonders, just look at Apple.

No, I would say the reasons are pretty sound.

The GS3 outsold the One X because.

-Better camera
-Better ergonomics, especially the buttons which HTC still hasn't learned.
-more accessories
-1gb more ram for multitasking. If the GS4 includes the faster ddr3 ram this could be even more brutal in favour of Samsung
-replaceable battery
-Micro SD card slot compared to the meager 16gb in the North American One X
-Sense 4 sucks
-HTC One X crap ass bugs which include notifications not received, wifi problems, loose screens etc. The works and I wouldn't put it past HTC to repeat the same problems or new ones.
-2100 vs 1850 mah battery.

There are a lot more reasons and I guess you can include marketing, but I would place marketing well, well, well below all the other reasons.

How can a phone with out LTE, and not on Americas LARGEST NETWORK be considered competition for anything? It may be a nice phone, but the Nexus phone will never be competition for the S4. If you want a big phone, then the DNA is a poor choice. The screen is nice, but no expandable memory is not.

You aren't very bight, are you?
Nexus 4 is big competition due to its Specs and Very Low Price Point.

$200-300 with 2 Year contract
$300-350 No Contract World Phone

all we have to do now is to wait for the unvieling of the SIV..lets see if it is really the phone to beat..

The HTC One is, the closest competitor, can be beat quite easily. It isn't even close actually. All Samsung would have to do is not put the buttons in a retarded position, like power button on the top right of a large phone and the home button to right away from where your thumb rests naturally. Which is already a given considering Samsung does a lot or ergonomics research and testing which HTC obviously ignores.

Make it more compact, which is also very easy to do considering the HTC One is the smae size as the DNA and it 9.3mm compared to the 7.9mm Xperia Z.

Put a Razr MAXX size battery in the GS4.

This will be even more one sided than the GS3 vs. the rest. It doesn't even need all of the above. Just one will do.
