Ever since the first Galaxy S, the series has been a tremendous success for Samsung, which has released a new S-branded handset once every year. And each year, the manufacturer has radically improved the smartphone to include tons of new features and enhancements. To a certain extent, the Galaxy S series has been ahead of the Android pack, both in terms of technology and user experience...

Ray S is the writer, havent heard of him before. Must be new. but the dna, iphone 5, nexus 4, and optimus are already old phones so there not really competition for the 2013 phone. how about a list of nothing but 2013 phones to compete against gs4, like the iphone 5s or whatever their calling it, moto x, optimus pro, xperia z, note 4, and such.

Yup, i agree...a device with no 720p resolution shouldn't be on the list, but lumia 920 and BB z10 are exceptional... iPhone is not even 720p and should be thrown out!!!

totally man! they just included the iphone because of its legacy success...the GS3 already beat the iphone 5 and so did the Note 2....iphone 5 isnt even in the same league as the GS4

iPhone 5 is for kids, 'silly rabbit'!
Many of them are being used as a training tool to teach "Special Needs Children" special develop-"mental" skills they, otherwise, have the misfortune of lacking [due to their limitations, of course]. I fully support Apple in this charitable endeavor and think they really have something "special" with their basic mobile OS. Kudos, Apple.

Galaxy SIV will be going up against, mostly, the Galaxy Note II. And, while there are a barrage of self-procalimed super Smartphones on the market, I don't believe that, technically speaking (of course), the iPhone 5 qualifies.

Samsung doesn't have anything to worry about they own this space and are the industry leaders in every aspect of technology. Best in class software and features solution, most innovative products, as well as the Galaxy Note family of devices. Time for people to look around it's Samsung everyone is copying and trying to catch up too including the Nexus line of devices. Bottom line Samsung is android plain and simple.

Actually you can't really argue it. They have the most resources and that is one of the reasons why they are so successful, not marketing.

The haters like yourself might find it difficult to stomach due to the sides chosen and battle lines drawn but that's the cold hard truth. They can dip into their own resources to create superior products like from Samsung display, Samsung memory, and their Exynos division which has a tight relationship with ARM. Or they can they get their parts from whoever HTC, Sony, or LG gets their parts from.

Samsung can get deals everywhere and dip into most technology and software resources and they have the money to buy the small upcoming companies that innovate.

That is just the way it is and it shows in the products.

Build quality alone is not enough. Htc one have more looks and it's built using aluminum.htc one is better than xperia z. Samsung will win in all aspects other than build quality

Including the Nexus line? Well half of the nexus phones have been manufactured by Samsung so they aren't really trying copy them. Samsung may be the most popular Android OEM right now but saying Samsung is Android is just ignorant.

can't say I agree that the Nexus 4 is superior in design to the S III, it may subjectively have a better exterior design, but the internals aren't as thoughtfully put together in some areas, I also dislike glass for the back panel (but that's likely because I drop my phones too frequently, my S III included).

Realistically only the Xperia Z and the HTC One can make the SIV run for it's money, but they won't. First the Z user feedback is mixed, elegant, waterproof design but laggy UI, bad viewing angles, huge screen drainage and disappointing camera cripples the experience; where the HTC One bets everything on the Ultrapixels which I'm not convicned of being the right strategy to challenge Samsung's numbers game and all-access marketing. I'm merely stating the facts here and I still think the HTC One is the phone to get, but it's not the phone the masses will pay for.

HTC One has already failed in a lot of key areas. Button placement is terrible and removing a button for the sake of no reason only detracts. Plus it is way too big of a phone for the screen size.
