Galaxy Alpha will be slimmer than the iPhone 5s and with metal side rim, new pictures reveal

And the leaks about Samsung's premium Galaxy Alpha keep on leaking today. We just had a retailer posting it up for preorder online at a pretty unpalatable price, confirming most of the specs tipped so far, and now the phone gets sized up with none other than Apple's venerable iPhone 5s darling...

As i said if you love your plastic phone good for you but stop preaching the world that metal phones are not worth it . Did i ever say aluminium is expensive ( learn to read) . But machining the metal is much more expensive than moulding plastic ( do a google search) .

"you must really hate high end phones made of high end materials ." And you refer this to which of two rivals? Alpha or iPhone 5S ? By the way is time to learn that aluminium tin can is THE WORST MATERIAL used for smartphones. And it's dirt cheap. That's why Samsung don't use it on their flagship phones. (and they have higher production price BOM, that the aluminium iCrap)

just tell me the drawbacks of using metal for phone body construction . And before you say it overheats do a little google search about good vs bad conductors of heat and which is better to dissipate the heat ?

The better question should be is why is the metal construction so important? Not only that, the matter can not just be about heat, but what about impact damage? The shockwave from an impact on 'metal' vs 'plastic'? What about other factors of the device? People can say its slippery, but thats cure with buying a proper case, but at the same time, does the fact you need to buy a case to solve a flaw in 'holding the phone' really count as a strength? Personally, I find the TEXTURE of the 'plastic' back comforting. Gives a nice grip, doesnt slip out of my hands, and feels rather soothing. Not only that, but it doesnt slide around like an air hockey puck on my table like Ive seen with other 'glass' and 'metal' phones... I think people are so vain and confused over what makes a great device when the only thing they can think about is how it looks? Didnt we all learn NOT to judge a book by its cover at a young age?

Not a fan of those protruding curves at the corners, and around the micro-USB port. Wish it was flush all around.

Yes, I am not sure why they would do that. Like element case style is fine for teens but shouldn't be anywhere near a luxury product.

I have that element case the only bad point was that the volume rocker stuck out too far and you always hit it

All-metal body is actually very slippery, just like glass panel. I have Samsung wave2 which is made of metal and it is very slippery. Sony xperia z2's glass panel is also very slippery. Meanwhile samsung s5's textured back cover is very comfortable and provide good grip.

So PA show us that iPhone 5S is mid-range phone. Calling it rival to Alpha. LOL

"Meanwhile samsung s5's textured back cover is very comfortable and provide good grip." The black model does provide good grip because the back plastic is soft. But it feels like it is oozing BPA and other carcinogens right into your hand. The white model has a smoother, nicer back plastic that is less soft, but doesn't feel like it is oozing chemicals. The S5 Active on the other hand, has a grippy nice feeling back and sides made of better plastics. It's the only S5 that I think Samsung did a decent job on. The action button is a great addition.

If it's not food grade plastic, it is.

still bad, samsung should fire the whole design team. they really can't get the minimalist modern design, even chinese can do it if it weren't for the crappy quality

Why fire them? It cost them just $3 to find some glue-on metal side strips in a downtown tech market, another $5 to shrink a few dimensions down from the S5, so for less than $10 Samsung has designed an entire "new" phone. There is a reason Samsung is doing well in the market. Because they save so much money on design, they can do plenty of marketing.

$5 dollars to shrink a design? Where do you get these engineers on the cheap? If I can get this team to die shrink my 28nm process to 22nm or lower for 5 bucks I'll personally take on Apple and Samsung in the mobile business. Rofl. Morons these days. Samsung designs follow solid engineering principles to save space and prevent overheating and allow durability. Which I can't say the same about HTC or any other Android OEM. Apple is pretty good though but they better be since their internals are dirt cheap and considering how much they charge.

internals are dirt cheap? you mean the internals made by Samsung? SO Samsung is dirt cheap?

No I mean they get them dirt cheap by buying volume. And then just overcharge by 5 x or more and people like you still buy them....

" If I can get this team to die shrink my 28nm process to 22nm or lower for 5 bucks I'll personally take on Apple and Samsung in the mobile business. Rofl. Morons these days" I didn't say anything about chip design. But the "Alpha" is basically another recycled design. Just as it visually looks like any other Samsung plastic phone with some metal strips glued on the sides, I'd also be surprised if there are any new chips in it. Probably just some chips they also use in the S5 mini.

Well the CPU is entirely new and the 6mm doesn't come from nowhere. That is engineering work and it isn't easy. And I really doubt that they are going to use the same screen as the GS3 so..... Lol so unless you can take an GS5 and GS3 and turn it into an alpha with $5 than you just said something really retarded. Try harder.

Phones are getting far too thick. It's about time someone stepped up to the plate, and created a thin smartphone.

and I've just read over at t3 that it's pricing will be the same as the 5s and s5. But I suggest that samsung price their alpha at the price range of the iphone internationally since many use it as a status symbol since it is the priciest handset and has the highest resale value

Man I love the design. Reminds me of my Galaxy S2. Hope its a real metal frame. Nice that samsung is focusing on design.

If it has the battery saving technology that the S5 has, this could still last a while.

Looks good overall to me. This would be my ideal phone is it used the same screen as the M7 and used stock android or something lighter than touch wiz.

Looks like a xiaomi mi4 replica to me with those metal border and plastic back.
