First official iPhone 6s camera samples give us a preliminary idea of what the phone's capable of

One of the biggest improvements Apple fans will find in the just announced iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are superior main cameras. We start off with an 50% bump in resolution — from 8-megapixels to 12-megapixels — supposedly without any sacrifices in image clarity. Like before, the smaller, 4.7-inch iPhone 6s comes without optical stabilization, while the iPhone 6s Plus features one (and now it works for video). 4K UHD video capture will also be made available, along with humongous, (up to) 63-megapixel panaoramic photos...

Now before Apple showed off the new iPhone you made it very clear that no 2gb of ram and no full spoilt view then no buy, I hope you keep to that the new iPhone as nothing to upgrade from your supper cool note 5

Does that matter. Those are custom fabs that Apple designs and Sony makes them. Saying these sensors are Sony sensors is like saying A9 is a Samsung chip. Its not. The same is with the IMX 240 used in s6 in note 4. Those are not the usual IMX 240 that others can buy. Those are actually Sony fabbed s5k2p2 sensors which are designed by Samsung. That's why nobody else is using IMX240. BEcause they can't. The actual IMX240 is a 4:3 sensor which doesn't have PDAF.

Apple and Samsung pay Sony for sensors, therefore they technically use Sony sensors.

Really? Where did you get this info? As far as I know Sony design and manufacturer the sensor for them. Sony custom made the sensor for their biggest customer. The bigger the customer and order the more advanced technology the get from Sony.

You must be stupid if you think that Apple design the sensor in iPhone and Sony only makes them like what they have done with their SoC. The image sensor in iPhone is not only make by Sony but also using Sony design they only pay little bit more money to get more features like PDAF and other stuff. You can't even find LG G4 Sony IMX234 sensor on Sony mobile image sensor product line up. If the image sensor is designed by Apple the would advertise it as their own sensor just like their A series system on chip (SoC). They will say something like this "the iSight camera is powered by custom-designed Stacked BSI cmos image sensor." If the sensor in iPhone really designed by Apple. Samsung also will talk a lot of s***t about the sensor just like what they have done with their ISOCELL.

WTF are you talking? The sensors are designed by Sony only but if some company wants to add some other stuff the the whole module is custom manufactured by companies. You are saying if some sony sensor has PDAF then it is not designed by them? Then why sony is written on them even if they are not designed by sony? No one is using IMX240 because IMX220 is available too. And Apple designs camera sensors?LOL Just like apple designs A9 chips and it has apple logo same is the case with camera sensors. "Does that matter. Those are custom fabs that Apple designs and Sony makes them." Then why the SOC doesnt have any samsung logo even if samsung makes them? The company who designs chip has "its" logo instead of those who manufactured it!

Increase camera megapixels, retain 16GB base storage. . . Like, god damn it, really?

What's the problem? You know there are more storage options right?

Are you the guy who thinks the $100 bumps are reasonable when many OEMs in the industry charges half that much? Maybe it's just not a big deal to you, but it's pretty bad.

So I want a camera 12 mp 8 is enough Lol history repeats screens, needless until Apple says: take a decent camera.

The difference is that 8MP camera can't take 4K whuch is the reason why I think they increased it , also when Sony has 23MP camera and MS have 41 and 20 MP cameras then 8MP indeed sounds very small whether good camera or not.

Not hating or trolling, but am I missing anything in here? They look good, but nothing close to what the G4, S6 and Note 5 are offering. And definitely not better than Sony Z5's official photos.

Its going to be great. Apple always improve their camera significantly with each generation. This year is not going to be any difference. I'm excited about camera performance. DXOmark review it now.

one thing I like about apple and this new devices is that they don't give a f*k wat other oems have implemented on their 2015 devices...they just confident on wat specs they hv implemented and I guess they have fully optimised them to match other oems specs. .eg camera with 2.2 f and 12mp ..and used software algorithms to stand against Sammy 1.9f or LG's 1.8f 16mp or Sony 23mp...all wat I mean is that Apple has tried to be itself and not follow or copy others way but implement their own ....a big lesson for oems eg Sammy to just abdicate going apple way in their devices and just be themselves and give consumers wat they've been known for specs. ..otherwise apple will still reap big even if no upgrade to their devices while others use a lot of effort to copy and still don't win or be the 'apple' brand they trying hard to be....

So you are condoning them charging you for new technology but instead giving you optimized old technology. Okay there buddy. I think you need to rethink life because you have it backwards. If I calibrate an old tv to movie standards and sell it to you for the price of a brand new uncalibrated, that is called ripping you off, not me not giving a f**k what other oems do.

my point is a wake up call for other oems. .to do their thing without always thinking "apple" and capitalize on their known technology rather than abdicating it to be "appleLike" this way each can be distinct an attract own pool of consumers for whom those tech specs work on and not try bring same old tech specs as Apple coz that will work to their detriment .eg Samsung

1080p vídeo at 120 fps is pretty awesome and the 6s Plus finally has optical image stabilization for video recording.
