First live images of the Xperia XZ3 surface revealing dual-camera setup, familiar design
Sony has a history of announcing flagship smartphone upgrades every six months, with the Xperia XZ1 becoming official in August 2017 and its follow up, the Xperia XZ2, appearing just six months later at MWC 2018. Now, as expected, Sony is reportedly working on a new Xperia XZ3 but, if a new set of images is anything to go by, it will be yet another iterative upgrade.

Starting with the front of the device, it appears essentially identical to the current Xperia XZ2 flagship. This means relatively thick bezels are still present below and above the display, although it’s worth noting that this does sport the tall 18:9 aspect ratio. The panel is then coupled with a single front-facing selfie camera and an in-ear speaker that presumably doubles as a regular speaker. If this is the case, a second speaker can be expected on the bottom bezel in order to form a stereo setup. However, considering the bottom portion of the smartphone isn’t visible in the images, this is pure speculation at the moment. Hovering over to the rear, Sony looks set to finally embrace the popular dual-camera setup on its next mainstream flagship but has not chosen to use the same module design seen on the XZ2 Premium. Instead, the Japanese brand has simply placed two circular lenses on the rear which are accompanied by an LED flash and what will likely be laser and predictive phase detection autofocus. Additionally, the very central fingerprint scanner is once again featured. On a side note, the power button and volume rocker are once again positioned on the right side of the smartphone’s frame.

When it comes to the internal aspect of the device, no information was provided alongside the images, but if a recent leak is anything to go by, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor should be coupled with 6GB of RAM and the choice of 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. Also, detailing the camera, a main 19-megapixel lens appears to be featured along with a secondary 12-megapixel sensor. Also, the same 13-megapixel selfie camera that was featured on the Xperia XZ2 Premium appears to have been added.

Sony is yet to make any official comments in regards to the Xperia XZ3 but, considering the brand’s annual presence at IFA in Germany, an announcement towards the very end of August is extremely likely.
