First camera samples from the LG G2 - compared to the iPhone 5, Galaxy S4, One and Lumia 1020

0. phoneArena posted on 07 Aug 2013, 16:58

Earlier today we had the opportunity to take a few camera shots using the new LG G2, and being the shutterbugs that we are, we took our our iPhone 5, Galaxy S4, One and Lumia 1020 to take pictures of the exact same scenes. What this allows us to do now is to not only take a look at the camera samples from the G2, but also compare them to those taken by its rivals...

Photo's are wonderful. Except the first picture of the chips where it failed to focus correctly. Besides that one I'd say it outperformed all others.

what? you crazy? look at colour contrast this has created. even though im not apple fan look at iphone picture and nokia lumia picture to get better colour understanding of those pictures.
then it has lighting issue too, look at first picture, next under too much light isnt gathered properly by G2, probably because of tiny sensor with too much pixels.
pixels seem on par with GS4 which is pretty ok. nothing unique.
camera and plastic design on this phone is its flaws, otherwise pretty nice phone.

I would say from best to worse overall based on those pics:
Lumia 1020 (for details mostly)
G2 (look at last pic, WAY more clear than Iphone and GS4
GS4 (good color, contrast)
Iphone (over exaggerates the lighting)
HTC (lookin' rough)

The G2 performed very well! It managed to produce 50% less noise but it never compromise the quality of the picture. Zoom in all of the pictures and you can see it..

They look very good. The camera on the IP5 and the S4 looks very similar. The one on the One looks like a KIRF.

It looks like the first iP5 shot was a bit sloppy.

I'd also have to agree that all around the HTC One didn't do so well... the last pic looks nice and sharp though.

I'd rank the pics taken #1 Lumia 1020 #2 Galaxy S4 #3 G2 #4 iP5 and #5 HTC One.

This wasn't done formally though so I'll wait for the 'official' comparison.

The G2 performed pretty good!
I think the G2 = S4 overall.
Then comes iP5 and One. HTC One performed better on close ups...it was less detailed on the first and second round.
G2 Looks promising.

My thoughts:
Lumia 1020 best, even bokeh is the best one no question about it.

S4 = G2 - but g2 has more yellowish look, the white on the first set of pics is better on S4. Detail wyse, g2 looks better BUT it looks that every pic woth g2 (except first one) was taken CLOSER to object than all the other phones!!!!!

Wow, pretty nice. Way less grainy than the iphone, and on par with the Lumia. The One doesn't have nearly the resolution so I think the Lumia is the only one that really gives it competition. Although the Lumia and GS4 might have better white balance.

I thought the one had the worst of the group followed by the ip5 then the s4, the g2 had the second best shots with the 1020 having superior detail.

Cameras big for me on a smartphone. The G2 shows it can pull its own weight.

Do some research on LG's history with OS updates. Let us know if you're still willing to buy an LG phone.

Updates come based on carrier requests to fix major bugs. LG's quality has been very good thus not requiring a lot of updates. Jelly Bean has been very stable.

Nope, it doesn't mean that if you have a GS4 you'll have to be blind.. Look closely, G2 outperformed GS4..

Pic #6 is focused on the projector instead of the chips. Lol.
Anyways, I really like the G2 pictures though, esp the Vitamin water one. It seems less noise.

Exactly. I assume many of these out of focus shot were intentional. It's not hard to lock focus on any of these phones (however, never tried the G2 yet, so don't know there). What up with that???

When other manufacturers make better use their own sensor it tells you a lot about the software engineers for Sony

Clue they are not that great.

Sony isn't mentioned because they have not caught up to he field especially after the horrible screen on the z
