Experiment shows people have hard time telling Apple iPad 2 from the new Apple iPad

Amid indications that Friday's launch of the new Apple iPad did not live up to expectations, perhaps one of the reasons for the lagging launch was that most people couldn't tell the difference between the Apple iPad 2 and the new model...

I don't know, I just got the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 with the Super Amoled display, Its pretty awesome even compared with the new iPad

Yeah you're right. I'm proud owner also of Samsung galaxy tab 7.7 which way better than ipad, especially in multitasking. The super amoled plus hd is superb and exynos really fast. They increase the screen resolution of ipad coz they realized maybe samoled is superior in there retina display. Those people who bought new ipad should nothing to be proud of coz other people who saw their new ipad may think its still an ipad 2... just a waste of upgrade.

Just proves that if you tell an apple user that something is new, they'll believe you.... If PA let us post pictures, this would be a great time for the one from Futurama with Fry shouting "Shut up and take my money!"

I work at best buy and me and another employee were quizzing other employees since we had a new iPad and iPad 2 side by side to see if they could tell the difference, and mosdlt guessed wrong. The only thing that would give it away was the new iPad gets WAY hotter. Even messed with a few customers we knew very well by switching the tags, NONE of them knew before we told them, even after compairing them. We got about: 80 and sold about 20 by 6 (we open at 10). Interestingly enough iPad 2's were selling better because people would come in for the new ipad, see there was almost no difference, and go with the cheaper one, or move to android

I can tell the difference. My iPad 2 had 32 gigs, and no LTE,my new iPad has 64 gigs, and LTE. Oh,and the screen looks really good too.

What your describe is mainly small differences in internals which makes no difference to the external device look, build or appearance. The new ipad is essentially the exact same device as previous ipads just with a screen (not made or engineered by apple) which has a better resolution. The sheer fact is that apple re-releases products year in year out with little difference besides an $ added to the name and an extra 'again' added to the changes everything again motto. If you place and iphone 4 and an iphone 4$ side by side nonosy can tell the difference

is it a problem? i mean it seems to be an industry standard…. look at the moto droid… it barely changes at all except for interior… the droid x had like 3 goes before it changed… htc outed the exact same style over and over… samsung does the exact same-- they repagage older designs with new tech… its not a bad thing! u dont have to fix something that isnt broken!!!!

You're right. There is nothing wrong with incremental updates. That's how evolution of any kind works. A series of small changes over time. Here's the thing though: Many of the more "vocal" Apple fans put down Android OS, Android devices, & Android users for exactly this reason. It's the hypocrisy that gets people riled up, and the blind fealty.

Well, according to most iFans, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference between an iPad and a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (even with the different aspect ratio and buttons), so why would they be able to tell one iPad version from the next? Maybe if a judge held both up ruened off in front of them from 10 yards away. They seem to think that's a fair test.

Personally, I might have been interested in buying the new iPad. Unfortunately, the announcement came ahead of time that W8 tablets would be coming out later this year. So I'll wait until the W8 tablets are out in the market before making my decision.

Honestly I just got my preordered new iPad and was hoping I didn't receive an iPad 2 by mistake. I think I can notice the weight difference. as for the screen, my eyesight is kind of bad so I don't even really notice the higher screen resolution. I guess I would have to have it side by side with an iPad 2 showing the same image on both screens to really see a difference in screen quality.

Not to be a smartass, but why not save a few bucks and just buy the 2 then? The only real noticable upgrade on the 3 is the display (unless you want the LTE connectivity)

I had the iPad 2 and I sold it. To be honest probably not particularly smart on my part because the new iPad is hardly an upgrade but what's done is done. It's still a nice tablet. I prefer it over my transformer prime, just wish the new iPad had a quad core CPU.

iPhones just shut the app, and act like nothing is wrong. Oh, and according to research, they do it more often than Android devices, too...
