Eric Schmidt says Android is "winning [the] war" against Apple

0. phoneArena posted on 12 Dec 2012, 10:51

Exactly one week ago, Eric Schmidt was saying that Google and Apple have an adult relationship, and are not fighting each other at every turn. Today, Schmidt may be explaining why that relationship is possible: because the war is over. Steve Jobs notoriously promised to bring "thermonuclear war" to Android and destroy the platform, but years later, Schmidt is saying that Android is "winning [the] war pretty clearly" against Apple...

What I have been noticing is that Apple sells more to the fashion conscious. Meaning that it's more an accessory like a purse (for women) or a fancy watch (for men). Those people want to be seen using it.

People who want the best piece of technology & wants a true productivity companion in their pocket always go for Android.

It's sad when you see older folks with iPhone & you ask them why they got it & they say because they thought it's cool or because their friends have them, yet they still can't use the phone for more than phone calls, texting & the occasional email.

Now an Android user knows their phone & can do more things with it, other than calls, text, & the occasional email.

Did you know that the baby boomers are adopting the iPhone? They are 60+ now. That is retirement age folks. It's just like the Samsung commercial. The younger person was waiting in line in place of his parents so they can get the iPhone.

Believe it or not, it's not so fictional.

That same generation is buying the iPad because it's easier to use than a computer. Apple is now for old people, who'd have thunk it?

I can sum all of that up to one word - denial. The iPhone has many more accessories than Android. Well that's because Android releases a phone practically every other day. That's why you see so many different variety of cases.

Your picture you're painting here is very much misleading as I know a lot of young people who have iPhones.

Thats kind of conceded saying," we"re clearly pretty much winning the war here"

Oh, and rude as well!

Why are we fighting? There is no clear winner. It's like cars, everyone like different kind of cars and brand. So who cares. just enjoy the phone you have.

Well iDiSagree, I'm fighting for Apple. How dare Eric say that Android is 'winning [the] war' and eating Apple's iCherry pie; it's not a very nice thing to say. Why would you reveal to everyone that you're eating someone else's pie, that's not a very gentlemanly thing to say pubicly.

Eric Schmidt should be restricted to wiFi as punishment; he should also pubicly App'ologize to Tim Cook for his iNdiScretiOn.

I wonder how many closet Blackberry fans will come out of the closet next year. iOS and Android will be tops but third will be Blackberry over WP8.

In a perfect world, iOS, Android, WP, and BB would all be available, but I just don't think that the pie is big enough for all of them to have it and remain profitable. Too many people have moved on from BB at this point, and it will be very difficult for them to attract their former customers back. Not impossible, but extremely unlikely.

It's kinda like an ex girlfriend or ex boyfriend situation. If you can go back and do, fine, but I'd bet you that the vast majority who try that end up seeing it as a HUGE mistake lol.

I dont think its about how big of a pie etc. For Blackberry I think its all about a certain demographic. Long gone are the days that Blackberry ruled the smartphone world. They might possibly never be tops again but I think RIM is ok with that. Their phones and how they market them are not for teens that love to root Androids or for Grampas that like to shop at iTunes. As long as they sell phones and regain their targeted audience I believe they will be ok with that.
I welcome options and Im sick and tired of two main OSs. Bring on BB10 and a more refined WP8!!

Oh well, that's basically the article 85% people here have been waiting for.
Let's say they are winning clearly but that doesn't mean Apple is going down: it'll just be the alternative to Android, like Mac OS is for Windows.

I think Apple won't play a positive role as an alternative to Android as Apple is a closed ecosystem where everything depends on Apple. I don't think Apple will disappear either as the World is big and there's a place for them, but Apple will be an unimportant player.

Android is not a monolithic force but a open system where there are many choices and opportunities. Every1 can be the next big thing, people follow Google's lead now only because of 1 thing: Google does the job better than any1 else.

You're right, Apple will continue to stay alive some how... afterall, Macs lasted all this time till now even when MS won in the computer OS war.

I agree. Android offered choice of phones, choice of carriers, low cost. 3 major things that Apple underestimated. Its too lil too late IMO. iPhone, iPad isnt going anywhere, but Android is winning the war.

Apple's main concern was profit and being exclusive. Nothing wrong with that, but there are cons to that scenario.
