These 2019 iPhone mockups might show us exactly what to expect from Apple in two months
Thanks to previously released renders, we already have a good idea what the 2019 Apple iPhones will look like. Today, 9to5Mac posted some images of three dummy models for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max and iPhone 11R that it obtained. The biggest change from a cosmetic standpoint is the square camera module that sits in the upper left hand corner of each model's rear glass panel. The iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max will both carry three cameras in the square module while the iPhone 11R will have two cameras inside the housing.

We could see the OLED screened 5.8-inch iPhone 11 and 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Max feature a 12MP primary camera, a 12MP telephoto with a 2x optical zoom and either an ultra-wide lens or a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor. The latter measures the time it takes for an infrared beam to bounce off a subject and return to the phone; this data can be used to calculate more accurate depth readings for an improved bokeh effect when taking portraits. It also could be used to offer a rear-facing Face ID. The 6.1-inch iPhone 11R will be equipped with the LCD based Liquid Retina Display and should carry the same primary and telephoto cameras found on the other two models.

All three phones will be powered by the A13 chipset, manufactured by TSMC using its 7nm+ process. The latest word is that the 2019 units will stick with Apple's proprietary Lightning connector until next year; that's when a total redesign could include a Type-C port for the iPhone. For this year, you'll have to be satisfied with the Type-C to Lightning dongle that will be in the box. Also expected to be a freebie this year from Apple is an 18W fast charge adapter. Currently, those who want to fast charge their iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have to pay $29 for the adapter from the Apple Store and an additional $19 for the Type-C to Lightning cord.

The 2019 Apple iPhones could be unveiled in less than 8 weeks

Speaking about charging, all three 2019 iPhone models are expected to get a bump in battery capacity. That's because Apple will most likely include a reverse wireless charging feature with the new phones. This will allow users to flip the phone screen side down on a table and use the rear panel like a wireless charging pad. If this feature is included, the 2019 iPhones will be able to wirelessly charge the AirPods wireless charging case, an Apple Watch, or a compatible phone. However, doing this will drain the battery on the host phone which is a major reason why the 2019 iPhones should have bigger batteries. Reliable TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the iPhone 11 Max will carry a battery in the range of 3491mAh and 3650mAh vs. 3174 for the iPhone 10XS Max. He is calling for a battery between 3189mAh and 3322mAh for the iPhone 11 compared to the 2658mAh battery that powers the iPhone 10 XS. And he forecasts that Apple will include a 3089mAh battery for the iPhone 11R. The iPhone 10 XR sports a 2942mAh battery and happens to offer the best battery life of any iPhone ever.

Big changes are expected for the 2020 iPhones. With a redesign in the works, all three models could feature OLED panels and carry screen sizes of  6.7-inches, 6.1-inches and 5.4-inches. According to Kuo, two of the three models will support 5G connectivity. If a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor is not included with the the 2019 OLED models, we should see it on some of (if not all of) the 2020 units. Having a ToF sensor on next year's iPhones would allow Apple to decrease the size of the notch, as is currently rumored.

The 2019 Apple iPhone models are probably less than 8 weeks away from being unveiled.
