Does Sony have you sold on the new Xperia Z5 lineup?

Now that IFA 2015 is coming to an end, we can finally sit back and reflect. In the case of Sony — which undoubtedly had the biggest showing this year — it has become quite obvious to us that the distinct silence on Sony's part leading up to the expo was a great example of the quiet before a storm. Not only did the revered Japanese corporation have a brand new Xperia Z-line flagship, but it actually came out with two other extremely compelling devices, much to the delight of fans around the globe...

Personally, I thought the frosted glass added a ton to the design. I really like it and it's well thought out as it's quite resistant to fingerprint and smudges. The Z5 really looks great in person. The fingerprint scanner is also glorious. That's where it's proper place is, on the side, so everybody can continue using their phone the way they always have. The updates to the camera are not minor, either, it's a new sensor, better stabilization, fresh interface. Remains to be seen how they did on the background, though.

Yup, double standards exist even within the same camp. The Galaxy Alpha was actually superior to the Z3 compact based on me owning it but it got ripped to shreds despite the only 2 things the compact had on it was battery life and waterproofing. The Alpha takes the performance, looks, style, and everything else.

Perfrmance, yes... Looks ad style are completely subjective... The Camera on the Z3C is better than te Alpha... (here is a comparison with the 5s and a DSLR for reference) The Alpha lacks a lot in connectivity, while the Z3C has a barometer, MHL3.0, magnetic port and USB Host... the only thing the Alpha has over the Z3C here is the heart rate sensor, which is unnecessary if you have an app that can use the camera (with the same accurate results) Stereo front facing speakers on the Z3C, great for gaming and videos. Expandable storage. And yes the battery is a BIG deal, since it was the most requested improvement from users for the past couple of years

The alpha has a faster SoC, slimmer design, metallic body, fingerprint scanner and a much nicer AMOLED panel. For expandable storage, alpha has removable battery.

The battery life alone makes the Z3C kill the Alpha and bury it 6ft under. Apart from fingerprint scanner, everything else u said is subjective.

The z3c had great battery life. But the alpha also has pretty good battery life. It'll last you a day easily. Plus, slimmer body and faster performance aren't subjective. Neither is the fingerprint scanner.

everything will appeal different needs... however slimmer body yes, but it also has a bigger size overall... And just as you could say that it's size is no big deal, the thickness of the Z3C is also not a big deal... metallic body is good, but the nylon/plastic frame on the Z3C holds up very good, no scuff or scratches. (I agree that the glass might be delicate) but I love waterproofing too much so I can let it pass. Anyway we could go on here for a while... that's why this article from GSMArena said it better If you weight in all the points here as a "+3" for winner, "+2" for second place and "+1" for third, the best score would be for the Z3C... however not everybody gives the same importance to every feature and people cover different needs with their phones... For me the Z3 Compact is the best device under 5" until last week... And in my opinion the Alpha is a not too distant second... I recommended the Alpha to a friend who was still sporting a Galaxy S2!... This is the perfect contemporary replacement phone for that... but it all depends on your needs. You can't ignore the significant advantages of the Z3C...

Blame the 810 minus the thermal paste and heat pipes just like htc m9. Then it got worse when it was reported that z4, z3+ in japan had customers complaining about overheating issues hence the firmware update on 4k recording. 810 really did screw manufacturers' potential profits.

Its because there is z5 premium you know.. Even though z5 and z5c doesnt have any bussines being premium. And finally sony fans just have something to brag about with 4k screen. Only hater actually hate the z3+ and fans love z5 premium..

I am really interested. I have a Note 4 and looking to upgrade. Do not like the Note 5 enough. N5 just needed a bigger battery. Z5 Premium looks nice, is water/dust proof, and still has micro SD. Still not sure if battery and SD810 are enough for that 4 k screen.

I'm pretty much in the same camp. If the Note 5 or the S6 Edge+ had either 128GB or expandable memory, I was very likely to upgrade to one of them, but the 64GB limit has just ruled them out. If it turns out that the Z5 Premium has a camera that's as good or better, a comparable display, microSD expansion, and good battery life (all of which seem quite likely), I am almost completely sold. The fact that it has near stock Android is simply icing on the cake. And if by any chance it comes out with the Snapdragon 820, I'll just nix the almost and state that I would be completely sold.

Same old, same old. The improved camera is intriguing, but Sony lacks that "it" factor that other phone have. I'm sure it's a great phone, but I'm just not that interested in it

If the Z3c had 3GB ram and a 1080p OLED screen then yeah, I just cannot stand LCDs, all I notice is the backlight.

Sony has always lacked in the design department. They have yet to make a good looking phone or make a real impression on me. I have never found anything they've ever released to be appealing enough for me to consider buying it.

Sony has always lacked in the design department.. Oh really? Sony along with HTC and Apple are the few manufacturers who give importance to the design department.

All of a sudden, PA pours positive feedbacks on Z5. Did Sony pay them this time around?

Wait for PA reviews. Remember Z3+ rating?

All of a sudden? This is anything but 'all of a sudden'. It's a new lineup, and as such is being judged on its merits. The Z5 and its derivatives look good; whether they end up scoring high after going through our review process remains to be seen.

Considering the Z5 Premium, depending on the Nexus by Huawei. Now if the Z6 comes with snapdragon 820 and the USB C port (thee only 2 things this phone is really missing) then the Z6 is a no brainer.

Maybe no, as SD 810 makes me avoid it.
