Palm also had terrible hardware and a laggy OS, neither of which is the case with Nokia today. It may turn out that consumers have simply moved on from both Nokia and Microsoft.

I'm hopeful for Nokia. but sadly their phones aren't getting much attention from customers, so I kinda slightly agree with these analysts.

I disagree. Nokias are starting to get alot of attention from customers. The biggest problem I've seen from them is getting them in so I can sell them. I've had many customers "settle" for the Atrix HD, or (god forbid) some crappy LG simply because I can't get the Lumias in fast enough. They are on the upslope right now, but they need to get them out a little faster to the retailers.

It would only be true if Nokia fails to make a great follow up right a way. They should do what Samsung is doing right now, creating two flagships released every 6 months(s3 note2). Besides, they were the ones who started such trend. Remember n70 then, n73 and n95? A great follow up could save them. Also, they should catch up with the on going demand.

They are ignoring their traditional markets. Take India for instance, which I believe was the main reason for their success. I rarely saw Palm, Samsung or Sony in people's hand. People here still trust Nokia. Yes, they do. General people don't know much about Android. They know about Brands. Apple for them is status. Nokia is trust worthy. Samsung lies somewhere in the middle (I know, that's what she said), HTC is unknown. Still they haven't brought their flagship to India. People are buying Windows Phone 7 phone and are complaining about it. They should introduce Lumia before the words gets out. Its a great piece of hardware. Windows phone has a chance in Indian market.

Actually, in terms of markets, India and Philippines are in very same place. Nokia's well known, yet it's the last one to get their best phones. Take lumia 900 for an instance. It never landed to any carrier here in Philippines. And also, not even a single carrier is planning to release 920. Unlike Samsung's galaxy flagships and Apple's so old iPhone that gets an event in every launch.

Nokia is only in the Bad position now because of a Chairman who knew nothing about what People want to be able to do with there Smartphones,Mr Elop just acted like a Salesman for Microsoft as they knew they were Miles behind Apple,Symbian was so Simple to use an so easy to Customize how your phone looked, but Windows is Nothing like that,so Loads have left Nokia for Android phones,Why did Nokia make there phones preform like the iPhones was Wrong as well,Nokia as got no Back-Up Plan if Windows Fails,Until Mr Elop is Sacked or Resigns then Nokia will Struggle in 2013

@meocow you sure have alot of grudge against Nokia and MS. You got tech molested by them or something?

33. MeoCao unregistered

I just say what I think, and not what other people think Seriously MS is bad for technology and very corrupt company. You know why Google is not doing well in China? They stood up against the Chinese Govt. MS bribes many govts including the Chinese and that's the fact not many know.

For a corrupt company, they sure do alot of donations. Especially gates. There is alot of hate for MS and I yet to hear that bribe in the news. I'm sorry but i thought Google Android was doing pretty well in China.

42. MeoCao unregistered

Maybe Gates wants to save his soul? This has nothing to do with tech. Android is doing well b-c Android is great OS and it's free, not b-c of Chinese Govt's support. Google has lots of troubles with the Chinese Govt, that's fact and if you don't know you can ask other people or search about it on Bing (w/o Google bias lol)

Google services are not there for locals. Chinese govt. doesn't want their citizens to get exposed to real world of freedom. The massacre done by their government is better known outside China than in China. Communist wanted Google to censor results. Google complied to some extent, acknowledging different context but chinese are known to push it too much. That's when Google refused to comply. Left China. Usually Chinese are not in the mainstream. Chinese have their own version of FB, watsapp and twitter. I am not sure what search engine they use, may be bing. This the reason Apple will fall in China. Local manufactures, like Oppo, Xiaomi, Meizu are providing local services which are actually used by Chinese, using Android. Xiaomi has strikingly similar ecosystem to that of Apple.

You know, our arguments, likes and dislikes, are about because of a company and their evil ways, but surely MS and Goggle are evil in their own right. Though you do see news of MS donating money to startups, tech schools and so forth. A balance of the evil act. free is good but MS is not an add company but a software. They have to make some money from their hard work, to pay for their employees. To pay for the great services you get on Xbox and business services and so forth.

49. MeoCao unregistered

save Apple most big campanies do charity work, it's part of PR activity to build company's image. The amount of charity that MS gave is nothing compared to the harm it brings to tech world. I don't know much about Google's "evil" side except they are accused of selling users' data. Do u know more?

Okay MeoCao.... nice slams without any real backing. I am fine with the fact you do not like MS... but you are living in resentment with no real reason. Know what conflict materials are? They are materials used in electronics mined in conditions like blood diamonds- at the benefit of warlords and at the detriment of those doing the mining. According to those who keep account of these things- both Microsoft and Nokia do a great job of keeping these materials out of their supply chain: Way better then RIM, Samsung, LG, or Apple. Also receiving great recognition for environmental standards: Throw in their exemplary charity donations and school support you have a company not doing too shabby. I am sure you can find links to MS doing poorly, but really- you think somehow Google is pure?? Not a chance. MS is trying. Better then a lot of companies.

This isn't a "Palm" story. Palm failed because they didn't have the money to execute with their original business plan, so they had to make alterations that sent them on a death spiral. Nokia has money. and they don't screw over customers like HP/Palm.

Everyone seems to Realise Mr Elops Plan with Microsoft,he keeps Downgrading Nokia an then Microsoft steps in a Saves Nokia ,so Mr Elop does not seem to be the Correct Chairman at Nokia,Microsoft just want this to Happen to get there Portfolio Boosted as its Miles behind Apples

I believe Nokia will survive. Windows [phone 8 is based on the Windows NT Kernel a powerful Network PC OS that is used in windows 7, Vista , XP windows windows 2000 and windows NT it is versatile and well known and more powerful than IOS and Android. A lot of folks have written software for Windows NT. If I had to depend on any smart phone OS out there it would be windows 8. as more people get used to the tiles interface of windows 8 and it gets more Apps it will be the Power house OS of smart phones and Nokia is right there in the middle of it. but I am in shock they did not make a windows 8 tablet..Tthe Windows RT OS is new and it will take at least a year to get a nice portfolio of apps in it's store. it is the closest Windows Tablet OS to Ipads and android OS because like them it only uses touch screen designed apps that are in it's store

Just can"t wait to see Nokias reaction when Jolly release a New Meego Smartphone,as the Nokia N9 just showed how bad things are at Nokia, they created a Superb phone with new Software on it,but Nokia would not Allow the N9 to be sold Globally to Improve the Sales an Shares at Nokia,Mr Elop was so Scared of the Meego N9 being more popular than Windows, but this could have helped Nokia with another ecosystem instead of just Windows
