Current Android devices won't be able to get seamless Android N updates

One of the most intriguing new features of Android N is in seamless updates, but there are a lot of questions surrounding exactly what that means for users. We've been asking around and no one can say if it will make updates faster or if we'll still have to wait through manufacturer customization and carrier testing, and then the "seamless" part comes in once the update is finally pushed out...

At least the newest iPhone won't become unusable in the next 3+ years.

Not like iPhone, unusable since day 1

If the iphone was unusable, it wouldn't be selling well.

Apple is about imagination, design and brand loyalty blindness ," . "It goes beyond commerce. This business should have been dead 10 years ago, but people said we've got to support it."

.... Meh, that's true. Lucky you for having the Moto X Pure, you got Marshmallow before 99% everyone else.

Yeah only thing is I haven't seen a security update since February and 6.0.1 is nowhere in sight.

Well, you picked the Moto X over the Nexus 6P even when it was in stock, you knew full well what the expect from each device so there you go.

We were promised timely updates. Don't go making excuses.

I find it quite comical that you're so butt hurt over the fact that you haven't received an update that has little to no distinguishing differences from the user standpoint, but you pass off a blunder of an update from Apple that bricks their devices by simply saying "well, no one is perfect". Your double-standard/hypocrisy is unmatched, and your stupidity is legendary. ... by the way, wouldn't "well, no one is perfect" be considered making excuses, which you said that I shouldn't be making? But I guess you're permitted to because it's to benefit Apple, and we all know you're an iSheep, who's getting his body ready for the next iPhone. Your words, not mine or anyone else's.

I find it comical that you're in complete denial. I can see maybe a few weeks to a month, but it's been several months since 6.0.1 rolled out and no sign of it for the Moto X Pure Edition. I did say no one is perfect, but this is ridiculous from Motolovo. The whole point of getting the Pure Edition and bypassing carriers is to get those timely updates. Yeah, I said "my body is ready" before, so what? I could say the same thing with you and Android fans. You're just as much of a hypocrite.

So you'd rather have a brick than a phone that doesn't have the most up to date release? Is your brain scrambled? It doesn't make sense that you would be accepting of a company that ruins their devices with poor quality updates VS another company that runs a little behind Nexus devices, even though you're still ahead of 99% of the phones in the ecosystem. And unlike you I can and have called Google out (UNPROMPTED) for things they do that are wrong, you've never been able to do that for Apple because you're an iSheep, bending over for Tim Cook.

You know what Apple has? It's called SUPPORT. Yes, Apple should have never pushed the update out, but don't sit on your fat @$$ and tell me that Android OEMs haven't done the same. Even if the update bricked the iPad, it's still easy to wipe and restore. That's not the case with some Android phones. No, I don't give a care what excuse you bring out. We should have had 6.0.1 by now. That's the whole point of buying a Pure Edition phone. You would know all about bending over. From your salty attitude, it still looks like you have something stuck up your rear.

Why are you wasting your time to argue with them, fandroids always say that iPhone can't do 99% of what Android does and like always they struggle to give good example so screw them

I know I shouldn't since it's a waste of time. It's just funny how some of them stumble in the process though.

Vulkan is the only something that gamers would want from android N. Else lollipop is sufficient for us. It has everything that ios has. And if anyone really cares so much about update, they can always root their device. But atleast they pay for what they get in a device.

Not really 'new android' a new phone yes. But no where does it state that Android itself will be new.

If that's the case, don't complain when most user is still on lollipop and marshmallow turf. Because this is just another Windows Vista.

Seamless updates it not that, it's about making the updated device only need to reboot in order to get an update and they can go in the background like chrome

Since storage on current phones is divided in 4 partions: boot, recovery, system and data, switching to 5 would be difficult (even impossible) with an OTA update and you can't expect non-technical people to connect their phones and use software on their PC to do an update. Even now I haven't seen that many people on for instance XDA who changed up their partitions to gain data storage since the chances of permanently bricking your phone are big.

All xiaomi smartphones supports dual partitions which mean as an end user with some knowledge of rooting and flashing custom roms even I can dual boot my mi3 . I had tried once in my mi3 last year CWM recovery . There was no hang or hiccups , true dual boot of Cyanogen on system 1 and MIUI on system 2. ALSO provides fastboot boot rom and mi flash tool which designed to flash Rom on both partitions. Very Excited

Forcing Obsolescence on the consumers. And every time this happens there will be a very logical appearing reason that can justify it.

Uhm, how is this making your device "obsolescent"? It doesn't slow your old hardware down, nor brick it, your device will still be very usable with Android N, just a new feature that requires a full OS restore.
