Clues hint that Android's Gallery app will be replaced by Google+ "Photos" in KitKat

Late last month, Google replaced the "Messages" application on Android 4.4 with Hangouts version 2.0. Google apparently will continue this blurring of the line between its open source OS and the internet. There are signs in Android 4.4 that the Gallery app will soon be replaced by Google+ "Photos". Some of the clues include the missing Gallery application in leaked early builds of KitKat...

so are they forcing android users to use Google Plus? - Youtube comments - Hangouts replace sms - Now replacing native photos app? doesn't seem free and open source to me. sounds like they're forcing people to use their services.

No one is forcing anyone. Anyone with a Google account has a G+ account whether they know it or not. But you have THE OPTION to use it or, you know, just ignore it. So let's recap... How does commenting through G+ on YouTube hurt you in anyway? There are many SMS apps out there that handle MMS. No one is FORCING you to use Hangouts for texting. Photos is completely underdeveloped and you are free to use whatever gallery app there is available on the Play store. Plus, if you don't want it uploading to the cloud.. Then you just don't sign in THROUGH THE APP. It's a completely different process than signing into your account for the phone. "Free and open source" has nothing to do with promoting their services they own through... Oh sh**... Their own operating system. You have a choice to use their services. No one is forcing you to do anything. But whatever makes you sleep at night..

It's normal in human nature to whine, just to be constantly aware of one's own existence. Also, we tend to handpick what we want to see and understand, further molding the outside experiences to one's expectations. In all seriousness, though: It's their damn product and they do what they want. Android and Gapps are still as convenient as they can be, and still more open than certain competition. Don't like it? Get a replacement app from the dozens available. First-world problems.

Also forgot to mention, you don't have to share your comments on G+ when you comment on Youtube.. so ugh. /endrant Thanks Pancholo

original gallery app and updated google+ are socks. they both can't handle over 10000 photos. before the update, google+ was fine. but after, it just froze every time to try to import all photos in my phone and SD card. just like gallery app does. quickpic is the best gallery app.
