Certain Huawei and Honor users can now test a beta version of Pie based EMUI 9
Huawei announced today EMUI 9, which is its latest UI based on Android 9.0 Pie. While the final version will be launched on the Huawei Mate 20 next month, those with select Huawei and Honor handsets can install a beta version of the new UI. More on that later. First, the company says that its goal was to make changes to the UI that make it "Simple, Enjoyable and Consistent."

Changes include a new password manager that auto-fills passwords using ID verification from the fingerprint scanner or via facial recognition. The number of items in the settings menu are reduced by nearly 100 to 843, and new gesture controls will help users quickly navigate, multitask and open the AI assistant. GPU Turbo 2.0 reduces the touch response (or latency) by 36% and adds a new app assistant. Four more games will be supported by the feature: Vainglory, Arena of Valor, Rules of Survival, and NBA 2K18. The four join PUBG and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang as carrying support for the second generation version of GPU Turbo.

As for the EMUI 9 beta, it is available for certain models only. That list includes:

HUAWEI

Huawei P20 Pro

HONOR

To install the beta on your compatible Huawei or Honor phone, go to Huawei's Friendly User Test page by tapping on this link. Click on the download button on the page to install the beta app. Accept the Terms of Service, open an account and go to Personal > Join project. Select EMUI 9 beta program and click on sign up. Keep in mind that this is a beta version after all, which means several features could be buggy. But Huawei wants your feedback to make EMUI 9 the best it can be.

Android 9.0 Pie includes gesture controls, Google's new digital wellbeing initiative, the AI-based Adaptive Battery and Adaptive brightness features, Slices and more.
