BlackBerry senior director says "the future is really Android"

Even before the Android powered BlackBerry Priv was launched, many wondered what the future would be of BlackBerry's own platform, BlackBerry 10. Earlier this month, BlackBerry CEO John Chen said that BlackBerry 10.3 would be receiving security and privacy enhancements in 2016. But comments made over the last few months made it obvious that there will be no new BB10 hardware introduced this year...

Agree. Android's monopoly in the phone business should be treated fast.

Kinda hard to claim Android has a monopoly when the iPhone sells as well as it does.

R.I.P BB10. Great decision by BB. Now they must work on making their Android experience a lot more unique to differentiate, the Priv with its keyboard was a great step, but they must take it further, bring all Hub features from BB10 and create the most secure finger print scanner.

The selling numbers in the next financial statement will only tell if the Priv was a great step or not. I'm not happy with that probable decision at all. We wont have much choices besides Android and iOS. Only WP, which is so much struggling right now

Yes, after "Apple has reported the biggest quarterly profit ever made by a public company" ($18bn) Apple will move to Android. ROFAL.. again.

It's such a shame too since BB10 really is an amazing mobile OS. Hopefully they'll be able to continue to transfer over all of the really cool ideas they built into BB10 onto their Android devices.

Personally I think they should keep both. Use Android BB sales to fund their efforts to refine and improve BB10 and beyond, the same way I think Nokia should've used Android or Windows Phone (or both) to fund their efforts on Meego and Symbian, rather than abandoning them and going all in on Windows Phone.

Agreed. Hopefully, that's what will happen. Chen has actually mentioned that he hopes to release new BB10 hardware eventually on the strength of the sales of their Android offerings. BlackBerry's next ER will give us the best indication of how well the Priv is selling. Hopefully, it's well enough to do just what you're suggesting. BB10 is too good of an OS to let go down the toilet. I just have my doubts about BlackBerry supporting it long term if they are able to make Android as secure as BB10, or secure enough to replace it in the areas only devices with the strictest security measures are allowed to function.

I agree. My hope was that they would create Android devices to target the consumer market (so available through traditional carrier channels) and keep BB10 devices available directly sold to enterprise clients (a direct sale initiative).

Unfortunately, this is most likely true. As jelimoo has said, it's a real shame. BB10 is an incredible OS, and I know that it could have been made to be even more so. However, I do understand that it would not be financially feasible to maintain BB10 long term if BlackBerry is able to get Android as secure as BB10 with all of the certs necessary to function in the strictest of government agencies as well as regulated industries where only the most secure devices reside. Once BlackBerry gets Android as secure as BB10, and gets in the places where it currently isn't allowed to go, I believe BlackBerry will slowly phase out BB10. It's sad, but at least BlackBerry will remain in the handset business, provided that their Android offerings meet or exceed their goals. I also hope that BlackBerry does indeed bring over more and more BB10 features to their Android offerings. While I do prefer BB10, I'd much rather see BlackBerry remain in the handset business. If this is the way to do it, then so be it.

Considering that you're the one on my sack, I'd say that you're the jock rider here. Also, by your logic, you're definitely the jock rider here since you've done the exact same thing to me that you're accusing me of being a jock rider for.

You're parroting what I say and you're being a creep with sick fantasies. Sorry Princess, but I don't swing that way. Whatever you and Chen the Hen have going on, keep it to yourself.

You're ALWAYS parroting what someone says, so you saying someone is parroting you is invalid. And yeah, you're so on my sack. I guess you want to emulate the CEO of your favorite company in that retrospect.

68. Mxyzptlk unregistered

*yawn* Your comments are becoming mundane and rudimentary. Can't you come up with something else besides your sack and parroting?

Well you are salty since you're still butthurt about what I said and you're a twit.

Well, you're STILL on my sack, hungry as ever for it. Must taste great, that's why you won't get off it and keep parroting me to show how much you're on it.

Nope! But yours is here with me. She wants to know why you're such a copy cat and have no life outside of trolling PA. She's mortified. Says she's embarrassed that you're her child. Poor woman.
