BlackBerry once again reports smaller losses, sells less phones, but shares go up

It seems that John Chen's plans to transform BlackBerry and bring it back on its feet might be working just fine for the former giant. The ontario-based manufacturer today released its financial report for the quarter that ended on August 30, and according to it, BlackBerry has seen less losses that initially expected. The net loss for the latest three fiscal months is $207 million, times less than the $965 million that it lost just a year ago. The revenue, one of the most vital financial stats, was $916 million during the second quarter of BlackBerry's fiscal 2015, down from the $966 that it brought back home during the previous accountable period...

They need more marketing and need to price their products cheaper than it's competitors.

The easiest thing to do is to price low for higher market share: but that is a road to nowhere, as a lot of Android vendors are finding out now. Blackberry, like Apple, offers a unique hardware and software combination. They are at extreme opposites as to how much success they have had, but really, the whole mobile phone business is now really Apple on a roll at a level no one can touch, Samsung doing well up until recently and now some storm clouds are gathering, some Chinese Android vendors getting a pittance, along with LG...and everyone else bleeding a lot or a little. Chen really has taken on a huge challenge, one which would scare many other potentially fine CEOs. He will go down as one of the greatest CEOs of our era if he manages this.

"The easiest thing to do is to price low for higher market share: but that is a road to nowhere, as a lot of Android vendors are finding out now." Thats why you offer other services that can make money off the bigger market share. Samsung and Sony seem to understand this, HTC somewhat. But it sold Beats too soon instead of trying to make it better. Amazon knows it very well....offering Prime and the benefits of Prime.

You know theobile industry has changed when Blackberry is the lead innovator while apple and android are just doing the same boring thing, with better spec sheets. I really want to buy this phone but me being a stupid Google fan boy means I'm going to be stuck with the huge Nexus 6...

Keep it steady now ... make a 6 inch touch device ... struck a deal with Google play store ... add my hard earned cash to your revenue ... then sell your options

they just need google services: maps, gmail, gdrive, sync... etc and they`re going to be just fine.

It's a good sign for BB. Keep it up but most importantly, price your products to be more competitive please. Z10 is a prototype.

Awesome job John. I'm reall pleased at how the ship is getting back on course. I like how John is using Blackberry's uniqness to re-invent the brand as opposed to trying to copy everyone. I solute his decision to not develop android and stick to BB10 platform. This tell me he's confident in his own products. I know Nokia was done when Stephen Elop gave up on Nokia designed Symbian software. John keep going man. I'm rooting for you; I can't speak for anyone else.

Seems BlackBerry continues to prove the doubters, haters and trolls wrong(I'm looking at YOU Mxy, JBishops, APisskula, JohnNokia, Alan F, BGR, PA and the rest). Great job Chen! Great job BlackBerry! Passport selling out!(200,000 in two days). Chen is definitely the right man for the job. Now I'm just waiting for one of the trolls I mentioned to come trolling along.

Great job on another quarter, Mr. Chen and BlackBerry! John Chen continues to prove the naysayers wrong! Let's point out a few highlights: Cash and investments on hand are UP 11 million to 3.1 million BlackBerry's EZ pass program has brought in a total of 3.4 million NEW licences for BES10, a three-fold increase from last quarter BBM MAU's are up from 85 million to 91 million 2.4 million smartphones were sold, up from 1.6 million the previous quarter BlackBerry beat the "Streets" estimates So, all in all, BlackBerry is DEFINITELY moving in the right direction and is here to stay! I've been saying this on PA for months: John Chen is definitely the man to be in the driver's seat at BlackBerry. To all the haters: You have once again been proven wrong by BlackBerry. Don't you think it's time to stop the hate and the trolling? To BlackBerry: GREAT job once again! Keep up the good work! Onward and upward! Oh!...and the Passport has sold 200,000 units online between the BlackBerry online store and Amazon.com. It sold out at its launch event in Dubai. Great job on that as well! Guess that shoots down the trolls theory of no one wanting to buy the Passport.

Wow 200k phones in a few days big deal. Apple sells 10 million in a weekend and Android sells 500k plus everyday. Blackberry is useless

I see APISSkula is back too! Nothing but a troll party going on now! And they sold 200,000 in just under 6 hours nitwit. Get your facts straight. Oh wait!... You're a troll. You don't even know what facts are.

Sells fewer phones, not less because it is a countable number.

I hope Blackberry does break even in the next quarter and become profitable again. Same goes to Nokia (though MS bought that arm). -Nokia Lumia 1020 and Blackberry Bold 9900 user

I see some trolls posting that selling 200k phones in two days isn't a big deal. However, considering when said troll doesn't even own a phone and can't tell the difference between and OS and the company that OWNS the OS, I'd say whatever he has to say about BlackBerry is of absolutely no consequence.

The Passport is BOSS dude! I missed out on the initial run. I went to order it on Amazon too late, although I am rather stoked that it sold out. I'm planning on ordering again next week as well. Good luck with your purchase of the Passport!
