BlackBerry kicks off May security patch rollout

Once again, BlackBerry is among the first non-Google OEMs to release a monthly security update. If you're rocking a BlackBerry Priv, DTEK50 or DTEK60, then you should expect the May security patch to arrive on your smartphone any day now.

The Canadian company recently published its Android Security Bulletin for the month of May, which contains information abut the multiple vulnerabilities it addresses.

Keep in mind that the update is aimed a BlackBerry smartphones powered by Android and purchased from ShopBlackBerry. Carrier-branded phones will be getting the update later on, as they are dependent on their rollout schedules.

Aside from the exploits and vulnerabilities patched by Google, BlackBerry addressed some of its own security holes that were reported by users and researchers alike.

For more information about everything that BlackBerry fixed in this patch, don't forget to read Android Security Bulletin released by the Canadian company over the weekend.

Since it doesn't have too many Android devices available on the market, BlackBerry is almost always the first OEM to deliver monthly security patches. Although April was an exception in the fact that it came much later than expected, it looks like the Canadian company has been able to overcome any setback that would prevent it to release the May security patch ahead of any other non-Google OEM.

My KEYone still has the April patch.

I already have the May patch on my Nexus 6P. I see it's just rolling out for the Droidberry phones .

BlackBerry rolled this out three days ago. Anyway, it's always nice to see that BlackBerry keeping up with the monthly security patches for its Android handsets, which are better than full OS updates, imo.

Lol, so much pain in your comment. You absolutely hate it when I shut your falsehoods down, and I'm loving it.

14. Mxyzptlk unregistered

Just like you shut down the supposed falsehood of the KEYone's real delay? Oh wait.

But I did. I posted actual links confirming why there was a delay with excerpts from actual BlackBerry executives. You posted a link from fans in a fan forum. You have no proof, while I provided proof. Your conjecture only holds weight to you. You just refuse to see past your own lies. Oh, and the KEYone is on sale in London, so there's that.

Where there's smoke, there's fire. All it takes is a quick Google search. You can deny it all you want, but the fact that blackberry hasn't released the KeyONE here in the US says otherwise. Keep yelling conjecture.

Lol, where there is hate, there is a lie that follows to perpetuate the hate. A quick Google search reveals what I've already posted as fact, not the conjecture you keep clinging to. But keep on feeding your hate with lies. It's all you have.

42. Mxyzptlk unregistered

You can call it a lie, but then common sense was never a common thing for you. You are clearly blind and in denial if you think the Galaxy S8 didn't have some part in the delay of the KeyONE.

Lol, it's a lie because you can't back it up with a shred of evidence. You know what evidence is, don't you? That little thing that backs up what you're saying? I guess you don't, because you have none. You can call your little conspiracy theory the truth all you want, that still won't make it the truth. But I don't expect an inbred trolling shill that has admitted to posing willfully ignorant comments on BlackBerry articles because of our little feud to know what the truth is, even if it smacked him in his pimple-encrusted face.

Like I said before, where there's smoke, there's fire. The S8 caused it to be delayed, and that's all there is to it.

15. Mxyzptlk unregistered

"which are better than full OS updates, imo." And now you see why the 6P is the better device.

That doesn't make the 6P better. You're a full to believe that. And you don't own a 6P, anyway. I've already denounced that photoshopped image you provided, and you can't provide another one of something that you don't own.

28. Mxyzptlk unregistered

Yes it does. I'm not a *fool to believe that. You don't get to denounce anything. Just because I refuse to give you another pic of my Nexus 6P does not mean that I don't have one. Get over it.

No it doesn't. Especially when said updates cause problems with the handsets involved. I already denounced your falsehood of owning a Nexus 6P, and that's why you can't provide legitimate proof saying otherwise. Changing your avatar to that of a Nexus 6P doesn't mean that you own one. Get over that.

43. Mxyzptlk unregistered

You saying I don't own one doesn't make it true. Do you realize how retarded you sound? If I am such a big Apple worshipper, why would I even bother to praise the Nexus 6P and several other Android phones? You're just mad because I won't give you another link to a picture of my Nexus 6P. Cry me a river. I don't have to prove anything to you. And thank you for confirming that Android updates are just as faulty as the ios updates you keep referring to.

Lol, but you don't own one. I've already proven that by pointing out your BS photoshopped image that you attempted to post as proof, only to delete it from your Imgur account completely. Why do that of its solid proof? Answer: Because it's not, and sound like a complete idiot trying to say you still have one when you really don't. It's a typical troll tactic so you can try and say that it lends credibility to the fact that you troll Android, and claim that you're not the inbred trolling Apple shill that you know you are. NO ONE believes it, and that's why others call you out on it. You're a fake and a fraud. Lol, I don't give two shts about Android updates like that. And iOS updates are the most faulty of them all.

59. Mxyzptlk unregistered

Lol, whatever man. You're just mad because I won't give you another link just because you demand one. You can say whatever you want to believe, but it won't make a difference because I own one whether you believe it or not. Don't backtrack now. Man up you little btch. You just don't want to admit that I'm right.

Amen. Full OS updates usually break more than they fix. Rarely has a new version of Android produced problems for BlackBerrys like they do for "me first" crowd. By the time the Priv got Marshmallow, the bugs were worked out and it didn't suffer as many, if any, problems other phones had. From what I've experienced with Nougat, I hope it never comes. The Moto Nexus 6 and the LG G5 are exhibits A & B in the case against Nougat. The Moto even rolled back to a prior build because it was so bad.

@Crispin Exactly. I much rather prefer the speedy security updates that keep the phone safe, secure and running good as opposed to being the first with a full OS update that brings bugs and cripples performance. But some people think that a buggy full OS release makes their phone better (even though they don't own the phone to begin with).

31. Mxyzptlk unregistered

A. I own the Nexus 6P whether you want to believe it or not, so get over it. B. You just made yourself look like a tool. I'll let you figure out how.

A) No you don't. If you did, you'd have provided legit proof saying so. Get over that. B) You just made yourself look like a hypocritical idiot. I'll let you figure out how.

I don't have to prove anything to you. Stop copying my responses you asinine twit.

You mean you CAN'T prove it to me. Stop being an asinine twit, you asinine twit.

No, you mean you CAN'T prove it to me because YOU DON'T own one. Mxy code for, "Meanest is correct. I am an asinine twit."
