BlackBerry "Krypton" gets a green light from the FCC
Just last week, the BlackBerry "Krypton" received its Wi-Fi certification, and late last month the device was given its Bluetooth certification. Now, the next TCL produced BlackBerry Mobile handset has been certified by the FCC. This is going to be an "all touch" model, and based on rumored specs, it will have a screen carrying a 1080 x 1920 (FHD) resolution. Other rumors have the Snapdragon 625 chipset under the hood with 4GB of RAM inside. A fingerprint scanner will reportedly be embedded inside the home button, and keeping the lights on will be a 4,000 mAh battery. This model could be the first BlackBerry handset to come with an IP67 certification rating. That means that the unit could be submerged in water as deep as 3.2 feet for as long as 30-minutes and emerge unscathed.

The FCC filenames call the phone "Krypton," although we suspect that this could be an extension of the DTEK line which currently includes the mid-range DTEK50 and high-end DTEK60. There has been talk about the Krypton getting launched next month, and with all of the certifications it recently has received, that appears to be likely.

The FCC documentation shows the Krypton name belonging to BlackBerry model BBD100-2, and that is one of four variants listed by the Wi-Fi Alliance. The others included BBD100-1, BBD100-3 and BBD100-6.

Unfortunately, images of the phone are covered under the short term confidentiality agreement requested by TCL. The agreement covered the following files that TCL placed with the FCC:

  • External Photos
  • Internal Photos
  • Test Setup Photos
  • User manual

There has been speculation that following the Krypton, BlackBerry Mobile will release the "Juno," which will be another handset featuring a physical QWERTY keyboard.
