BlackBerry Colt to be a full touchscreen device with a dual-core processor and no LTE?

0. phoneArena posted on 19 Aug 2011, 16:42

According to Crackberry, it looks like the BlackBerry Colt, RIM's first QNX flavored Superphone, will be a full touchscreen model with nary a trackpad in sight, and unlike the latest trio of BlackBerry phones, the Colt is expected to have a dual-core processor under the hood...

They dont need to have the highest clock processor out there, but they definately need to be in "the ball park" with whatever android is bringing. Bring some horsepower, make sure that thing is stable (theyve waited this long, they better not screw it up at launch.. so take your time RIM), has a high res screen on it at 4 inches or more, and to have something they can lay claim to, at least a 10-12mpx camera. Blackberry has always been strong in the photo quality department even if they dont have the highest count.. now they need to have both.

And they really.. above all else... need not only QNX to be android market enabled out of the box (its one of its features if u didnt know), it needs to have at least 2 "showcase" QNX apps preloaded as well that are super high quality.. and one needs to be a game.. lol. Oh yea, and dont mess up email support again..lol.

A nice short list eh? :)

Well, whatever specs that RIM will be dishing out to the market gotta stand tall with the long awaited iPhone4..and yeah, incorporate multi-touch in it!

I hope the screen is 4 inches in size. I can't stand any smartphone screen much bigger than that.

There is no one even bringing quad-core processors to smartphones yet. That is still a ways off. Much further away than Q1 2012 so the QNX superphones from RIM will be right up there with Android phones. Can't wait until RIM starts releasing these handsets.

I agree. Look at dual-core now, it still isn't perfected yet. Hopefully RIM will nail it and make a great phone. QNX phones will run so well on dual-core, can't wait.

A "Superphone" with no LTE radio? In 2012? Aiming for mediocre yet again, huh RIM? You can't keep holding back when other OEM's are going all out. I'm sorry, this is another FAIL!

Technically, the only carrier using LTE is Verizon, so they could easily do 4g HSPA+ on Tmobile, wimax on sprint.. and fake hspa on ATT.

LTE phone development doesnt seem to be many manufacturers priority right now.

This is true, but then don't give it a moniker it can't live up to. LTE is available on VZW now, And RIM keeps promising something special. And every time they disappoint. Their of course are still a loyal few that will never sway from their Blackberries. But there aren't enough loyalist to keep the company going forever. They need to stop playing catch-up, and start leading the market they first revolutionized. Com'on RIM!

lol.. what would u do on an LTE capable blackberry anyways? they dont have any huge apps like android or iOS..
i dunno.. is there really a need for it? other than saying the "have it", but LTE chips are battery hogs too.. so if there isnt a real need for it, why waist the juice. you know most people arent smart enough to turn it off.

Specs, specs, specs. I get tired of seeing people judge phones purely on specs like how many cpu cores, front facing camera and screen size. Yes, a modern phone needs good hardware but continually trying to copy and beat the iPhone is getting boring. What really maters is does it do what you need? Does the battery last long enough to get through a day? Does it make your time more productive? At least that is what I want.

Don't get me wrong, the blackberry torch all touch screen phone looks promising, from what I have seen it is pretty responsive and fast. There is def a huge improvement in the web browising but I do have to agree with others that by the time this phone comes out. It will be already a year behind the competition. Even if Quad core android phones are not on the market yet, they will be shortly with brilliant super amoled hd edge to edge 4.5+ inch displays.

I am not trying to be biased here but the Storm did leave a really nasty taste when I had one and there has been little improvements since. Thank god they finally got rid of the stupid click screen and they improved the screen size. But lets face it, 2009 3.7 inches was considered to be large. Now it's actually small and I would like to see at least 4 inches. They just need to stop wasting so much space with stupid logos and more space for the screens.

I don't think phones should have screens larger than 4". I mean 4" is big enough to whatever you wanna do with a phone. Why would you wanna have a 4.5" display if it probably won't fit in your pocket?
I hope RIM sticks to the 4" display and nail the OS to be quick and flawless. And honestly, after a year perfecting the OS on the Playbook, I think they're going to do a very good job with the QNX-based phones.
