Back from beyond - Apple releases the new iPod Touch with A8 processor and 8MP camera

Even if we don't need it in our lives quite as badly as we used to, it's darn good to have the iPod back! The new iPod Touch is available starting today through Apple's online and retail stores. Its mission isn't to bring back the cult of the iPod, though. It's a way for Apple to get its Music service into even more users' hands...

had one in 2007 and a Moto Razer. Sold both after a month for the iPhone 2G. Unless you live in on the outer planets of the solar system, this makes no sense. A tablet makes more sense, because the form factor for the Touch is a phone!

Is Apple updating this iPod as only Music player rather than an wholesome entertainment device? If not why the F*****g hell its still posing with a tiny "4" Inch Display? Atleast as big a display as iPhone 6 would have been good though. All fine except for Display.

Im buying one. Not a fan of iOS on a phone, but love it on a media player.

I'd buy a Lumia 520 instead.. Way cheaper + you can even use it to make calls and cellular data.

I hear what you are saying, but something must be said for sound quality. The DAC in the 520 is lacking.

They should just add cell chip in and make it iPhone 6C in fall.. A lot of people who like smaller iPhone would love it.

Yep, add a $10 cell chip and sell it for $550.

"The iPod is an iconic device, and arguably the best portable audio player ever invented" is your opinion and I respect that. I'm sure 99.9% of people would agree with you. I have owned many generations of iPod's, Zune's, and Walkman's. I am a basic guy that has (tiny to major) OCD (traits?). I like(d), up until recently, one device for music playback which wasn't a cellphone. Walkman's were the most basic experience I could have asked for (drag n drop support). I have owned three Walkman's and the best one being the NWZ-E464 - I know not the most easiest of model names to recognize it by. This model had a battery that lasted up to 50 hours! I feel like I never had to charge it, and I would listen to it for a few hours every day up until losing it a few months ago. I now use my Nexus 4 for all my music storage as it makes sense to keep all my music stored on there. I am not an Apple fan at all. Do research and you can find anything better than anything Apple related, and this is coming from someone that doesn't own a Mac - so if you own a Mac then having an iPod (or anything Apple related) makes a whole lot of sense. I hate that when I had a Windows machine, installing iTunes would install so much random crappy software that I didn't need or want! Add on top of performance issues with the software and the devices, I had to get something else. My Zune's and Walkman's were amazing! IMO, they were the arguably the best portable music devices.

Wow, just the perfect device for me. Just signed a 1 year contract but want to get another phone because the 6+ is way too large and cumbersome for me. Was hesitant about going Windows or Android because of the solid games + iTunes integration on iOS but this would serve my needs just perfectly. Will go iPhone again next year when there is a design overhaul. :)

Not bad size for iPod. 6 inch been better. Not the plus and defiantly not a iPad mini. Don't know about the Lumina's either. Got burn on the Zune. But really just rather have my phone on me for all my media consumption.

I think an updated iPod touch is great. Personally, I'd really like it for it's simplistic style (I love Apple design) but I'd probably prefer to download the Google Play Music app from iTunes to listen to my music. Just preference though!

Useless device in todays standards. Only the greatest of Apple fans will buy this to their iDevice collection.

Some people want to listen to their music collection only without wasting their phone memory since not many phones have SD anymore. This is good for case playing music or gym workout or for preteens who don't need a phone yet but want apps to play games. It's also good for games. You're expecting too much out of this product if that's the case the iPads are useless too.

No its not. Its an iPhone without call facility and 50% cheaper. This is perfect for kids and music, media and gamer enthusiast. Camera is quite useful to. Its a mini version of iPad. Handy and pocket size. I'm going to ditch my iPad mini 2 for this.

I always like the ipods, got my first ipod the 3rd gen, then moved onto the 4th gen and now been using the 5th gen since it's release. All my music is on there and the best part is im not wasting my phones battery when listening to music
