Attention, gamers: Your smartphone display's super-high resolution means little, and here's why

It's only when we feel we have sufficient data to back our point up do we feel comfortable making sweeping generalizations, but in the case of smartphones, its fair to say that we have our very own little Space Race. The rush is spearheaded by the Android crowd for the most part, with competing Apple doing things its own way, preferring to weigh in indirectly. But the facts are facts — deca-core processors, more generous allotments of RAM than ever, and tiny displays that fit more pixels than your 50-inch flat-screen...

For gaming probably not simply because the native res of most games in quite low and its just upscaled to fit the 2k or 1080p screen. When it comes to anything else 2k is gorgeous. I put my Oneplus next to G4 the other day and the difference is obvious, not to mention the unreal panel of the S6.

goes to show how IPS is better than pentile amoled in terms of image quality. amoled, of course, is still better when it comes to power efficiency and the "pop" factor.

The only thing this article explains is that the games are crap, not the hardware. Also the GS6 is a poor representative of 1440p, since it's pentile OLED, it's pretty much only as sharp as a 1080p screen but with the advantage of 1440p pixel mapping. This test has been borked right at the first step.

+1 - A much nicer comparison could have been done using iphone 6+ & LG G4. In fact, PA can still do it and it would be a useful, original post. But hey you get it, I get it, but good luck trying to explain it to other folks!

Nope only good comparison is to stay in same OS as games dont have same graphic on two different OS. Get a M9 VS a G4.

Meh agree with PA, FHD is enough. Though S6 performance and battery life is still ok and better than some competitor even with it's 'useless' QHD.

even on the PC, As I used to be a pro-gamer for more than 10 years, the resolution I chose is 800x600, and it was considered high among pros, many of them even chose 640x480. And yes, for the 19-22 inches screen. Because we, gamers, put the performance over the beauty !

Depend on the games and the computer used but yeah i always find the maximum setting with no obvious lag and then reduce it thats way even if in the game there is event where the graphic get very loaded ( lots of ppl , explosion ecT ) i never experience a single lag.

Some games get better resolution and textures package on the iphones btw so this is not a good comparison. Do the same comparison yourself PA take a S6 and a M9 and do the testing on two android handset so we ca see a real comparison. Like btween the iphone 6 and 6+ we can see a real comparison and 1080p vs 720p in most case mean a good increase in quality. So compare 3 android 720p , 1080p and 1440p.

So what. The display is more advanced vs the game. But for 599 i get 1440p vs paying 649 to get 750p. Its not about how good the games looks. A 1080p games looks the same as long as your display can display its native resolutions. NO DUH! Stop trying to justify dated hardware on the iPhone. The S6 Edge is only $50 more than the standard iPhone and look how much MORE I get. EVERYTHING IS BETTER. So what about the apps graphics. if they updated the games with 1440p bitmaps, your article would mean nothing. Oh wait, it still means nothing.

Until Apple releases a high res iPhone, then we will see an article how amazing it is.
