Leaked Asus ZenFone 6 prototypes hint at display holes and triple-camera setups
The current-generation Asus ZenFone 5Z

Asus is currently the sixth largest PC manufacturer in the world but when it comes to the smartphone market the company isn’t quite as popular. Despite this, the brand has proven itself capable of producing some pretty solid devices. And with 2019 just around the corner, three new prototypes have revealed what the ZenFone 6 series could look like.

Kicking things off with perhaps the most interesting prototype of all (which sits alongside a ZenFone 5Z), it confirms that Samsung is not the only company working on the idea of display holes – Asus has placed a small hole in the top-left corner of the display that is home to the front-facing camera. This is accompanied by very slim top and side bezels and a slightly thicker chin down below. The smartphone also boasts a vertical camera setup on the rear and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Moving over to the second model, it's fair to say that the overall look isn’t quite as impressive. However, it is still pretty unique thanks to a waterdrop-like notch that is placed towards the right side of the top bezel. This is once again home to the selfie camera and is joined by slim side bezels and a slightly thicker chin. Also, a fingerprint scanner can be seen alongside a dual-camera layout over on the rear.

Completing the lineup of prototypes is one that looks much closer to release but is unfortunately considerably less exciting. This version includes a small notch in the middle and a chin down below. Also, when it comes to the rear design, the only difference versus the current-generation ZenFone 5Z is the presence of a third camera sensor.

As these three devices are simply prototypes, there’s no guarantee any of them will be released. However, it’s certainly exciting to see other companies working on the display hole idea. Considering the relatively low price of ZenFone devices, however, the devices that are eventually released will likely resemble the final prototype rather than the first.
