Asus ZenFone 5Z scores $100 discount to hit impressively low $400 price with Snapdragon 845
The powerful Asus ZenFone 5Z hasn't been in the news much since its US commercial debut last summer, scoring an official Android Pie update a few months ago and bracing for the formal announcement of a follow-up family in just a few weeks. Priced at a very reasonable $500 right off the bat, the notched 6.2-incher is today getting its first ever big discount, dropping to a measly $399 at B&H Photo Video and its manufacturer's own US e-store.

Interestingly, Asus is selling the ZenFone 5Z at this substantial 20 percent discount in a Meteor Silver color variant only, while the Midnight Blue hue is currently listed as "temporarily sold out." The blue model is actually the only one in stock at B&H, though, with the silver flavor showing as "discontinued."

Clearly, you don't have a lot of time to act here, as Asus phones are not typically very popular in the US, but the bang for buck of a $399 ZenFone 5Z trumps the company's modest brand recognition. You're looking at a Snapdragon 845-powered handset after all, also equipped with a generous 6 gigs of memory, a decent 64 gigs of internal storage space, dual 12 + 8MP rear-facing cameras, a 3,300 mAh battery, and a sharp IPS LCD screen with FHD+ (2160 x 1080) resolution.

The glass construction is snazzy and shiny (albeit presumably fragile as well), and even though they don't offer particularly remarkable speed and accuracy, the handset includes both fingerprint and facial recognition technologies. What's missing is any level of water resistance, but at 400 bucks, you can probably learn to live with a few compromises seeing as how there aren't a lot of phones in this price range packing a fast and furious Snapdragon 845 processor.
