Archos 80 Xenon surfaces in Europe, an affordable iPad mini rival
The Archos 80 Xenon has just surfaced in Europe and it’s an affordable 8-inch tablet with 3G connectivity. It’s running on Android and happens to be one of the many newly surfaced 8-inch devices that will rival the Apple iPad mini.

The 80 Xenon comes with a price tag of 226 euro (around $300) which makes it much cheaper than the 3G-equipped iPad mini that starts at $459.

The Archos 80 Xenon comes with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and features Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, and the 8-inch screen matches the iPad mini in terms of resolution - it’s 1024 x 768 pixels. Storage is only 4GB but it’s expandable via microSD cards. The rest of the details are not clear just yet as the device has not gone official, but it’s likely that we’ll hear more about this tablet pretty soon, so stay tuned.

Looks cheap. Only real competitor is the Nexus 7. The Note 8 is $400 worth of cheap plastic. S3 knockoff.

Oh, I miss the good old days of Archos, when they innovated and created premium devices... So sad to see what they've become... I remember having my AV500, a portable multimedia player with video recording capabilities almost like a TiVo, and it had a front facing speaker, an infrared receiver with an included Remote Control, a 4" screen (480x272 High Res for the time LOL) It had USB OTG. And you can output movies to TV up to 720x480 DVD quality.... Playlist where editable with dual screen for arrangement, and also dual screen for moving and copying files inside or to/from a Flash drive... This was release at the time when Apple had the iPod COLOR! does anyone remember... an iPod that displayed photos... Poor Archos...

Couldn't agree more! I had the older A5, and A5A, and those were superb products. After that they moved to the A70 and etc series and those were the worst tablets I ever used. If they put more than 500MB of RAM in their products they might be worth something, but don't count on it. Archos is complete LOW BUDGET these days, and you get what you pay for, a tablet that can barely surf the internet and couldn't multi-task to save its life. ARCHOS = FAIL!!
