Apple's iPhone XR is on sale at Best Buy for up to $390 off with carrier activation
The single best-selling smartphone model in the US is never discounted at its manufacturer's official stores, but you can count on third-party retailers like Best Buy, Fry's Electronics, and Target to occasionally hook you up with a popular iPhone XR at a lower than usual price... if you happen to meet certain special requirements.
A fresh batch of deals is available from today to May 27 at 11:59 pm CT with "qualified activation", which essentially means you need to choose your carrier upon purchasing the 6.1-inch handset at Best Buy. You don't necessarily have to agree to a lengthy device payment plan as well, although that can definitely help maximize your savings.
For instance, you can cough up as little as $15 a month instead of $31.25 for two years with a new Sprint account or a new line of service, equating to a grand total of $360. That's a whopping $390 off the list price of the LCD screen-sporting iPhone XR with a single rear camera in tow, while opting for a one-time Best Buy payment with upfront Sprint activation will only save you $100.
That's still better than the modest $50 discount offered for Verizon subscribers either outright or with monthly installment plans, while AT&T customers get absolutely no savings for one-time payments. On the bright side, they are eligible for a decent $150 markdown with both Next and Next Every Year commitments.
Typically available for $749.99 and up, the iPhone XR is still one of the world's top-reviewed high-end handsets, packing the same state-of-the-art Apple A12 Bionic SoC as the costlier iPhone XS and XS Max. The XR's main downsides are the aforementioned LCD panel and single rear-facing shooter, as well as a slightly lower-quality aluminum frame and thicker bezels.
