Apple is nearing the official launch of its application store. At first, it was expected that at launch, the store will contain around 200 applications, but the response from the software developers was so good that in the end, the number is greater than 500. Steve Jobs said that a quarter of them will be free while 90% of the rest will be priced $9.99 and lower. The expected date of the launch is this Thursday night, which is a day before the iPhone 3G can be bought.
The App Store comes preinstalled in the new iPhone, while the first generation users can download it for free, unlike the iPod Touch owners ($9.99).
