Apple still the most popular smartphone maker in the U.S, Android the top platform

There are multiple ways to measure market share. Some outlets measure advertising impressions, or from surveys, which are not the most accurate measures. Some measure device shipments or sales, which is better, but sales figures can be hard to come by. And, some measure by extrapolating from data gathered by a huge network of tracking software. This last option is the one chosen by comScore, which has new data on how Apple and Android are faring in the U.S....

But they don't care! It has a Apple logo what counts more that it makes it look " cool and trendy "

And getting rinsed out by giving an outdated screen and 2009 battery along with stingy 1Gb Ram and cheap recycled aluminium which costed Apple so less to pay for parts but in return rips of its users providing a subpar featureless phone, costing an arm and a leg.

Do you think Apple want more sales in EU than they have now? For the sake of their "margin business". LOL

I see a lot of iPhones in the UK and mainly 5s ones too. But there is a lot of brand diversity on the tubes in London for the most part. Lots of Sony and HTC phones too with plenty of S4s.

Android has about 90% marketshare in Spain. The biggest European country for Apple is UK, mainly because of the language. Android is killing it everywhere else.

You are wrong. First android, especially Samsung, second wp and then ios. Android is far ahead of others.

Quite the contrary (and I live in Italy). During the last 3-4 years, the shift from Apple to Android has been huge, though most of them are Samsungs. You will also see some Nokias around, especially in the hands of younger and less technological people. WP is more popular in Europe than in the US, and in Italy even more. Apple and M$ share the same market share (around 10-15% each). Many exhibit their Nokias or Samsungs proudly, and would not exchange them for an iphone. Yes, the iphone is still an object of desire for many, and it has its loyal users, but what happened in Europe (except maybe UK) is that Apple is now a niche, while most people use Android and just don't care much about Apple and its phones. So if some years ago it could be true that Android's users were people who wanted an iphone but could not afford it, I'd say that this has changed a lot.

Clearly you don't read well. It doesn't matter the number row androids out there. If you want a fair comparison when it comes to IOS and android it's apple and Samsung. Those other Android manufacturers are not making any impact. So the truth is apple rules in the US but the US is not the world. Samsung is still king when you look at the big picture. Like it or not Sammy is android.

For now it is, but largely because until the G2 and Z1 and even the HTC One series, Samsung literally had the market all to themselves. They were the only ones making good phones, everyone else was kind of just getting their act together. This year everyone has good offerings and so we shall see the real difference being made this year. Small gains this time will lead to big numbers and real pitched battles next year. It can only get better from here.

Yeah. . . LG and Sony aren't really improving in the US. LG's marketing is awful, Sony's is non-existant and their phone is only on T-Mobile. They have competitive phones but not very competitive business strategies, in the states anyway.

Samsungs luck can change anytime. Back in with 2010 HTC had 24% of the market. The mighty can fall.

It's not about falling. It's about having options. I don't want Samsung to control 80% of Android with all others sucking. I want to pick multiple flagships from every Android OEM. I want Motorola to make a 6 inch phablet that competes with the Note. And that's coming from a Note 3 owner.
I'm a Android fanboy; not a Samsung fanboy. I've own 1 HTC, 2 Motorola and 3 Samsung Android phones.

You can't say sammy is android cuz it's not true. Sammy does have huge market share but others are not that unimportant. EG: My personal life friends all have HTC, Nokia, Motorola, Huawei and Xperia. But they have sammy in large number, also.

You'd expect Apple to be at the top in the US, since its their home country. But outside that country, iPhones are not that popular. That's not to say they don't sell, but they are dwarfed by Android and in some countries, WP. Apple really needs to get some traction in emerging markets. They'll no doubt be selling millions and be earning alot of money, but only for now. The US smartphone market is saturating, and most of the growth is gonna come from emerging markets like China, India, Africa etc. And in all those places, Apple have little to no presence. They need to release a really affordable iPhone to gain traction in these markets, which are the future. Or they may be heading downwards. Remember, every giant has fallen from the top due to complacency (eg. Nokia & BB). Apple must learn from others mistakes and try not to repeat history.

Iphones are even more expensive outside the U.S. which not too many people can afford

They are on top in the US, of device makers. Android is from the US too you know, but it's only on top when you group multiple companies together.

Emerging markets don't generate a lot of profit, so Apple really doesn't need to consider them much. In Apple's past case with Samsung, it was revealed that phones like their original Galaxy S get easily outsold by their cheaper phones like the Galaxy Prevail, but the Galaxy S made them much more money in terms of profit. Market share is a pretty empty bragging point, it doesn't necessarily make them more money.

Precisely stealthd, when ur doing business, the thing that is of most vital importance is to make money so you can continue to function. All these android makers are just trying to fight Apple by cutting prices and offering their phones that end up generating a sizeable profit ONLY if you sell them by the gazillions. Unfortunately, there is also a limit in the number of smartphone users to keep renewing their contracts with. Thats the problem when all makers adopt a universal platform like Android, competing with one another for the share of the pie, and you end up having only Samscrap making money out of it. But very soon Samscrap may even end up having to pay $30-$40 per phone when it loses the patent war with Apple. Victory is at hand. Wooo ~~!

So it was the same with apple osX and windows. Win have a lot of hardware manufacturers with their os and Apple is an indide business, like ios and android. Their choice of doing business.
