Apple shares hit 52 week low on Friday as stock remains pressured by sellers

Apple's shares hit a low on Friday of $91.85 before closing at $92.72. Friday's low is significant because it is Apple's new 52 week-low. The 52-week high is $132.97. Apple's stock has been declining since it announced its fiscal second quarter earnings report. While the company earned $10.5 billion for the three months, it was the first quarter in the history of the iPhone that showed lower sales year-over-year...

Having a ton of cash is irrelevant. What the market rants to see is growth. What they are seeing is Apple sitting on that cash pile coasting.with a single cash cow, while the rest of the industry caught up and surpassed them in innovation and quality. The stock was overvalued, and had made an adjustment. Where it goes from here depends on whether Apple continues sitting on it's heels copying what everyone else is doing, or gets down to business.

Having a ton of cash means that your stock price can't go under that amout. Apple got 200 billiom and so the rest of the company that made that much profit is valued at 300 billion while it can make a lot more profit than that in the future. Regarding single cash cow, google earns 90%+ from ads and that's a sliding ground, not growing. Why it's wauled so high if that "cow" is just a fraction of iPhone "cow" ? Apple R&D grows rapidly every year, unlike other companies. I think it was over 8B just last year. That's for development of like 10 products. Is that sitting on "cash pile" or just enjoying huge returns of previous R&D ? And how will others spend on R&D in future if Apple rakes in all the cash now ? We can argue one way on another, but Apple got own 3D touch, own 3-rd gen CPU arch (which is state of the art), own displays, own taptic engine, software even memory controllers and a big bunch of other things that are still hidden, never to be revealed. There are spent billions and features no other company can offer. How is that copying ?

"Having a ton of cash is irrelevant." Yeah b/c that makes sense in the real world/s. Apple doesn't have to copy anything from anyone, they still make all the money in mobile...EVEN IN DOWN QUARTERS. Apple took in over 85% of all profits in mobile this quarter and over 90% last. LG saw YoY sales drop of 95% quarter because of their "innovative" new phone not selling well. Instead of worrying about Apple and trying to predict their DOWNFALL, maybe you Android lovers should go out and buy phones since you all love "innovation" so much. Normal consumers don't care about modular designs, 4k screens, VR, or any of that other bulls**t phone nerds praise and it's obvious by looking at figures across the board. Whether or not the other OEMS "surpassed" them or not is irrelevant if the all cease to make money doing it.

It is irrelevant to the stock price, which was the topic. Apple doesn't need to copy anyone, but it's pretty much all they do these days. And I don't have a problem with that, except for the hypocrisy. Normal consumers care about different things. It varies. Calm down. You don't have to rush to Apple's defense.

It's not about Apple (as much as media outlets would like everybody too believe) though. Everyone is struggling.... and all of these so called "innovations" aren't revolutionary enough to sway consumer purchases. Consumers interests haven't varied much since the the introduction of app stores, and no amount of "cool" factor is changing that. You know what I want as a normal consumer; something fast, smooth, with all the latest apps and games, a nice camera, and maybe great battery life. All phones from the last 2 plus years have had that, so I see no reason to upgrade so often. And as an IPhone user, I know my IPhone 6 will be getting updates for 2 more years after this. People just don't feel the need to upgrade anymore. It is not about Apple vs. Android, it's about the smartphone in the current sense of the word. They have become stale pieces of metal and glass, and the operating systems are becoming more a like with each generation.

Not everyone is struggling, and Apple was the only of the top five smartphone OEMs to experience significant drops in volume. Others saw no growth to small gains. It's about the fact that people are realizing they can get an equally capable device these days for half the price. It's the exact same pattern Apple experienced with PCs twenty to thirty years ago, because Apple repeated the same mistakes.

They are going ro copy and give Apple fans all the features they tried to live without because they refused to buy an Android and rather wait for Apple to have them. Now they will but it could be too late. And all the fanboys, will do an about face on all the features they called gimmicky on Android devices

Hey, a question from a non-american - does Apple advertise on American television anymore? Like regular television, not the Apple TV? They should if they don't anymore. The "buy a Mac" adds were very good. Apple need to do the same with their iPhones, or at least advertise on YouTube. It could help if they are having problems. But I'm not concerned, if Apple can make a great product that can defeat any other smartphone and advertise a lot they should be fine. All companies will face a hiccup like this eventually.

I do not give a damn about any brand based on where it is from. Though my experience with chinese brands like Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo and its sub brand one plus has been poor so I avoid chinese product. I really want apple to replace Tim Cook. But I do not know why would anyone expect a 1080p display or stuff like that from apple as they would harm their profit margin more than sales boost. And the ability to sell a phone at max price while spending minimum on it is a art. As a Company, Hats off to Apple. What ever they do... Fool people or not.. They knew how to sell. Though as more people know about tech, the more will be decline in their market share.

HAHaHAHAHA!!!! I find it really funny that there are some comments of Apple being domed just because they had only one bad (slightly bad) quarter! If we go by this logic, then Samsung, Sony, HTC as so many other have been domed now for a couple of years now lol (they had bad quarters consecutenly, and only a small number of good quarters, and zero mind blowing quarters):D.

From all that has happened till now, Samsung ia really good at adapting. Htc also adated their flagship. Sony has other sources as major income, not smartphoned buisness (though it adds).

Apple shall also adapt but it does not feels that they will after everything that has happened. If they lower profit, it would be shocking to all investors and Apple will start losing its biggest advantage. Apple need to innovate something new and amazing and that does not affects manufacturing cost.

@oozz009 Finally, a good comment, not much unlike having a breath of fresh air in the sewers... Take Microsoft or Sony... Or even Nokia or Blackberry... Lumia range has been STRUGGLING since Day-1... Witnessing year by year declining... Yet, they're STILL going and going... Microsoft just released a Windows 10 Update last week, it doesn't seem like they intend to ditch the platform in near future... PLUS... There are STRONG rumors of Surface Phones... AND YOU BELIEVE THAT APPLE IS GOING DOWN THE DRAIN PIPE...??? SOON THERE WILL BE NO APPLE...??? You've to be the dumbest person alive to believe that...

There have been comments about Samsung being doomed for years. The main difference between Samsung and Apple is that Samsung's eggs aren't all in one basket. They could shut down their smartphone division tomorrow and still make healthy profits. Apple isn't doomed. But they've got to start competing, stop with the attitude that people will buy their product just because of the logo, or they're going to end up like they did in the computer market, a niche product. Seven years ago,the iPhone had a decided performance advantage. Today, mid range phones perform as well at half the price. Other flagships offer more and better features. That's not even mentioning the nose dive their designs have taken since the iPhone 6.

What? This is just the first time the iPhone slipped in sales. WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER PRODUCTS? The iPod sales have been slipping due to cannibalism. The iPad sales dropping for quite awhile too. The Mac sales have increased a bit, but not enough to matter.

http://recode.net/2016/02/01/google-surpasses-apple-as-the-most-valuable-public-company-in-the-world/ Also samsung had higher net equity in 2014 than Apple has in 2016. (Not taking about Samsubg Electronics but as a whole).

Apple, get up, take the standing 8 count, and fight back. Show something good at WWDC, and release something good in September, or else. People simply don't have a reason to upgrade every year, if there's not a compelling reason to. I'm not even looking forward to the next iPhone, and honestly am not even really following news on it. The Note 6 is the only phone I'm interested in. The writing is on the wall.

The Note 6 looks like a beast. But if I get it, what next? It seems to have everything I need. I bought the Note 5, but I really wanted the expandable storage back. It looks like the 6 will have it. I'm not sure there will be any more reason to upgrade yearly after it (if all the rumors pan out). It might be a 3 year device. Smartphones have gotten too good.

I agree my man, if I get the N6, I'm skipping the 7. If I don't get blown away by the iPhone 7, I'll look to the 8, since the S model will look the same. The Note 6 had better wow me also, or I'll keep my 5. The 2 year upgrade cycle is starting to make more and more sense. It seems things across the landscape are sowing down. You're right, smartphones have gotten too good, even marketed simplistic devices like iPhones don't need yearly upgrades anymore. The reason I went ahead and got the 6S Plus was, it would be future proof for a few years. The 3D Touch, upgraded cameras, and the extra faster RAM put it ahead of the 6 Plus. No pressing need to upgrade it now.

The doom and gloom trend lol. Before it was Samsung, now it's Apple. With a maturing first world market, you honestly expect these profit margins these companies are making to keep ballooning?

I don't get it, why do you want apple to go down and make thousands of people get jobless? I don't like iphone but I don't hate it. I criticize the product because I want to see improvement for it's premium price. So sad that the tech world is getting bastardized with too much emotion and fanboyism.
