Apple sells 2 million units of the Apple iPhone 5 in China over the weekend

0. phoneArena posted on 16 Dec 2012, 21:15

The sales have been counted and it turns out that 2 million units of the Apple iPhone 5 were sold in China over the weekend, making it the best first weekend of sales ever in the country; this contradicts Friday's gloom and doom that sent the stock down more than 3% after early reports had the Chinese shunning the latest version of Apple's smartphone...

Good; but not really impressive. At the rate the cell phone market is growing and the fact you are available at more carriers, this isn't impressive to me. Just my 2 cents.

Hmm The Chinese maybe not as smart as we thought LOL, or maybe Apple exaggerates things to stop the stock from falling more?

Fun fact: most of the sales were from third parties with prices under $100!

2 million phones in China is equal to selling 632,000 Iphones in America so not impressive.

Exactly, knowing the Chinese market is bigger, this number is good but not impressive knowing the market is growing.

Don't tell me you believe this Apple-selF-fAbriCated story in a vain attempt to recover from thier stock price mudslide on Friday. This has Apple P.R. (not Puerto Rico) written all over it!

Apple's main concern is how it is perceived as stock value; the perception over the weekend that their value had severely depreciAted must've sent Tim Cook and Apple stock holders into a flaming tizzy'!

This explanation by Apple is mere damage control or as the French would say, "Contrôl d'iDamàgé"!!

And, anyone who believes this pile of horse manure or "crottin de cheval" is an iDiôt Suprème!!

What I'm telling u is that although I could care less, cuz I don't work for apple. 2 million is still 2 million, and how do u know its self fabricated? U don't u just don't like apple, and want to see them fail so u hope its self fabricated. I don't hate any of these companies just sell me a phone that works and I'm on my way.

Well, without starting a "flame war" cuz' Michael H will iBan me [again], as far as companies go, they usually are only sales and revenue driven. I've not worked for either and, therefore, can not give my opinion as to how an employee at either respective company would feel whether valued vs unvalued or appreciated vs unappreciated.

As a consumer, noting we all have different needs of course and standards, I can tell you that I have tried iOS, Android, Windows Mobile and the dreaded Blackberry OS (version 5. something), and I can unequivocally tell you that as far as what my needs are and what my standards are that, Android meets my needs and standards. I was one of the first to jump on Windows Mobile back in 2002 with my oversized Audiovox Thera 2032 smartphone and was content enough with Windows Mobile (not completely satisfied but, it was really the only game at that point) but, after 2006, Windows Mobile devolved (and, now they are trying to catch up but they've got those GHASTLY tiles). Of course, in 2007, came iPhone and it was considered so cool. Personally, I have never been a fan of how proprietary iOS has always been: from the OS; to the cables; to the software; sync process; content control; fixed storage; micro HARDWARE updates; etc. Not that I am bias, these standards have never met my needs. Blackberry (or Crackberry) speaks for itself, as pathetic of a statement as it might be in today's mobile market. Android, simply allows me to do what I want to do; the way [I] want to do it (not the way someone else wants me to). Google has allowed itself to integrate with apps and developers in a way that benefits the end product (software apps') and benefits the consumer ultimately and seemlessly. Prime example: after being pulled from iOS 6, Google has allowed Google Maps to once again be available for an OS iteration that tried to replace it with their own CONTROLLED entity aka Apple Maps FiAsco.

I thought Chinese prefer iPad instead of iPhone? Because they like to keep their feature phone until it's totally damaged, and the carrier sucks in China and they rather go WiFi... Plus, they claim iPad is much affordable, consider it is bigger than iPhone...

Nevermind, Chinese are rich anyway lol

And seriously, why would I thumb someone down when they speak the truth... 2 millions IS VERY FEW when it comes in China... But the problem is, Apple is not a volume player, as long as it's efficient compared to previous year they rejoice themselves...

All Apple want is $$$, don't tell me you still don't know that zzz

i hope people will stop bashing iPhone or any other OS that isnt related to android... i mean people, grow up!! if they like iPhone or other platform let them be..let them enjoy what they want!!!

its their money after all!

and besides, even the poorest human being wants an iPhone (yes its a fact) that includes china! and even android is booming on that huge country, most people still want iPhone but too pricey!

Yeeeeeah..... suicide nets outside the windows of foxconn, false advertising, and exorbitant pricing for the just the brand name and making people believe they are truly get the "best Phone" that's in fact behind the curve of the newest technology and slowing down the age of innovation, by restricting it with it's false patent claims and using the system's loop hole to it's advantage to slow down the competition......the reason for my hate for apple is the comapany's policies and they way they run their business...not their actual products...so i choose to tell people not to SUPport this company...and that's the freedom of speech...sorry

But that still doesn't mean you should tell anyone, ever, that they cannot and should not like the iPhone. You can take whatever prejudice and opinion you might have against Apple and keep it to yourself. Not everyone in this world has to think the same way you do (nor should they) and you should embrace and respect difference instead of trying to shoot it down.

In relation to the story at hand, it seems Apple are off to a flying start with the iPhone 5 in China. I'm not sure why the entire population of the country is relevent since about 90% of the Chinese live in poverty and can only dream of owning an iPhone (these consumers are more likely to pick up a Huawei or ZTE Android phone that falls within their budget, or a featurephone).

I wonder how many grey imports were already in China anyway and how this wetted down launch weekend figures?
