Apple seeks to add Google Now and Samsung Galaxy S4 to 2014 patent trial

Earlier this month, we told you how both Samsung and Apple are being limited by Judge Lucy Koh in advance of their next patent trial set to start in March 2014; Koh wants both companies to limit the number of devices in each side's infringement claim, to no more than 22. While Apple had originally left out the Samsung Galaxy S4, it did put Samsung on notice that it would probably be adding the latest Android flagship to its list...

Alright... My day was going well... No work, planning to go see the new Star Trek movie, root a Nexus 4 for a friend, and eat a damn good meal cooked by my lovely girlfriend... And then I read this... Apple has already gone against Google Now before at its release. Google made the adjustments necessary to comply and avoid any more stipulation. Now Apple wants more and doesn't have the guts to go directly after Google, whom I can guarantee you (being an Internet based company), has some of the BEST lawyers in the U.S. Now that the S4 is selling like mad, NOW Apple is going to conveniently remove an obscure Samsung phone in place of it?... That's just shady if you ask me. I don't know the ins-and-outs of this kind of trial, but I REALLY hope that judge has the common sense to say, "Well, it's a little late for that..." This is just downright madness (definitely not SPARTA). If Apple does get their way and all Samsung devices aren't allowed to be sold in the US, they'll have pretty much created a monopoly in favor of themselves. How is this practice well and fair for the everyday consumer who wants options. Apple advertises it's products to hipsters but is practicing like a company out of the Industrial Revolution...

Thank you. I do stand by my last statement.. During the Industrial Revolution, if one giant company say another rival company quickly rising they would either A.) Buy them outright (which that wouldn't happen AT ALL in this case). B.) Try to sue them out of existence and try to expose them in a negative light (which we ARE seeing in this case). At Google I/O this year, they graciously said that they didn't want the tech-world to be "Us Vs. Them" but Apple spit in their faces with this recent filing. If this trial rules in favor of Apple, the outcome WILL NOT be good for ANYBODY. Now I'm off to see the new Star Trek movie, it starts at 5:15.

this is getting pathetic for apple, they're really hurting their brand right now. I thought Cook wanted to end the lawsuits?

The CEO of apple being a big fat liar and not caring about anything but his own check? I guess he was taking notes from steve jobs.

Apples CEO is in incredible shape. So lets call him an in shape liar.

Yo mr grammar nazi you did not properly conjugate "lets". It should be LET'S since it is a conjugation (look it up, ask an adult for help if need be) of "let" and "us". The more you know...

Actually it should be Let's or let's...not LET'S dummy. We can do this all day long, you can't out wit me, your not intelligent, you sir are a joke and u will continue to expose you. Since you refuse to go away, I'll make you my joke.

I used all caps for emphasis (again, look it up) so my usage of the word was correct. For someone who likes to correct others' grammar and spelling you have at best a tenous grasp on the subject matter. Additionally you misused 'your'. Again. Also 'outwit' is actually one word. Stick to lifting heavy things.

The filing includes two Siri-related patents violated by Google Now, Google's robust voice activated search assistant. Patents '604 and '959 cover a "universal interface for retrieval of information in a computer system." The other three patents in the filing cover a "graphical user interface using historical lists with field classes ('502)," a "system and method for performing an action on a structure in computer-generated data ('647)." and "asynchronous data synchronization amongst devices ('414)." According to Apple, these are all claims that other Samsung devices already violate. Who else thinks these are the most vague patents ever?

"Patents '604 and '959 cover a "universal interface for retrieval of information in a computer system." So pretty much EVERY computer is violating this...

Not every computer. Some only solve math problems. Every computer that you and I use on a daily basis is. I'm waiting for Apple to sue Microsoft over Windows' search feature.

You need work? What happened, did you get fired from the poop factory? Oh I get it, the grammar nazi made yet another error. NEEDS is the word you should've chosen.

This is a shameless move and I really would had hope Mr. Cook would have reigned in all these lawyers by now. I have lost respect for Apple as a company and most of All Mr. Cook. I know business is business but at what point does it become bullying? there will come a time when people just won't take it any more and stand up together to the bully and give him a heck of a beat down. What if Google, HTC, LG, Lenovo, HP, Pantech, Sony, etc.. all now come together pooling their vast resources to take down Apple in court? Would Apple then run to the courts and say no fair? I mean this is what it's heading too if Mr. Cook doesn't stop these lawyers. This also hurts the carriers and no matter what we may think of them Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, Tmobile, Virgin, MetroPCS, all would see their revenue streams dry up and they won't go for that!! they will all file briefs as friends of the court on Samsung's side. Apple has to be careful here you destroy Samsung and Google then it will be their own demise as anti-Trust laws would come into full effect from the very courts it is using to sue everyone. Mr. Cook please stop the maddness.

so apple allows google now on IOS devices and the walled garden OS which they could have blocked if they wanted, yet when it is on samsung devices that is infringing on patents? Come on apple even you have to be smarter than that.

Screw the alphabet. I'm patenting matter. Everything that exists must pay me a royalty.
