God Luck With that... and with Apple successfully proving that Samsung (or any other company) caused them to lose any notable amount of 'lost profits'. Enough with all this 'they copied us' hypocrisy... How Ya' Like Them Apples!

"Samsung says that Apple is simply asking for too much money", could it be that Samsung truly copied Apples? Anyway, from what I have seen so far, these companies copy each other. Samsumg disguisingly admitted they copied shows a bit of sincerity and humility, Apples at the other hand is SAINT, STAINLESS, SINLESS and above all A BULLY!

its about patent dude. infringement of patent will have a big damage to the company. as it states that samsung wanna only pay 54 million where apple asks more. it is considerable. other than u have to pay patent infringement, according to the law, you should also pay the damage because of samsung act. however, samsung don want agree with that. they know they are wrong by having patent infringement and produce alot of device by using the patent. however, they don want pay for it. so what u think

First, Apple is the victim since they has shown the court(s) they were harmed by Samsung. Second, Samsung doesn't have the right to decide what little penalty they can get away with. Samsung knew they were harming Apple, and it's time for Samsung to man-up to their actions. If you recall, Apple approached Samsung and Apple even offered access to lower-level patents if Samsung would stop stealing Apple's IP. Samsung being the arrogant prick thumbed their nose at Apple. After numerous attempts to work out a deal, Apple had no choice but to sue Samsung. Even Judge Koh ordered the two sides to work out their differences -- Samsung only continued their incorrigible behavior. Before jury deliberation, Judge Koh again asked Samsung if they wanted to settle and Samsung told Apple to take a long walk on a short pier. After the jury verdict, Samsung being the biggest prick on the planet and sore loser went after the jury foreman. Enough is enough. All Samsung does is p*ss on the American way of life. Samsung doesn't get it -- we Americans have strong property rights and damn it if some Korean company think they can steal from an American company and can get away with. If Samsung could steal from Apple today, they WILL steal from Google or another American company tomorrow.

Apple is known to "borrow" ideas from competitors. S. Jobs openly said that geniuses steal from others - and now come here and bash somebody else for doing the same thing, and your only arguement is that 1 is US and ohter is Korean company! You Americans have idiotic property rights, that endorce patent trolls and stupid court fights, which is actually slowing any kind of progression in the industry. The hate for Samsung is "IN" this season yet again and reason is rarely in those discussions.

Yea, Apple tried to sue Samsung in many other countries, such as the UK, Germany, Australia, France,... They lost in every other country outside the US. The UK court even order them to post on their site that Samsung didn't copy them.

Interesting you should pull the "American card". The Rockstar (apple amongst others) patent consortium was purchased almost entirely to control to the smartphone market. None of patents were developed by Apple and were purchased for litigation and market control purposes. It is the very definition of patent troll. Apple are the crux and cause of this bull. And the best part - "your american" company - Apple is going after another American company - Google. It's unethical business practise and doesn't serve the customer - and your beloved apple is at the core (ha ha) of trying become a monopolist in the smartphone market, it just lines the shareholders pockets and prevents innovation. The American government needs to get an injunction to prevent these patent trolls forming. These cases remind how full of it apple is. Ironically they are the largest thieves cos they stole their graphical interface from Xerox and had the arrogance to have a go at windows when they did the same thing.

Wouldn't stealing make Samsung a great artist according to Apple? Secondly, didn't Apple steal everything they are suing over? Which one of the patents in Apple's IP is an Apple invention? If thse aren't Apple inventions, then they are prior art and should be invalidated...and many of them have been. The last jury foreman, who patented TIVO, told the juy "don't worry about prior art."

According to some of the logics of these posters, I could sue every human being for harming my financial income and opportunities!

Apple needs more than that to function annually and Samsung isn't going bankrupt if they have to pay it. The phones in question are so old few really care any longer. Samsung has a massive amount of attention from this case which caused their phone sales to soar, and Apple is painted in a bad light, it's hard to be a victim when you make the most in the mobile arena. Android market share continues to increase so the lawsuits aren't working to stop that either. But the fanboy wars are interesting, so we at least have that.

This has gone on for so long I've forgotten what patents Apple are suing for. Is this case still about the slide to unlock and 4-rounded-corner design? What a waste of taxpayer money.

I hope not. The Droid Charge is on the list and it has 5 rounded corners.

How does Apple know that they would have sold an addtional 360,000 units? Not saying Samsung is not in the wrong but come on. I can throw out random numbers too. I myself would never have bought an iPhone.

The problem with people in these courts and the USPTO is that they're all technologically illiterate and they don't even really comprehend the decisions they're making when they give this tech corporation such vague permissions and rights.

Apple should stop crying wolf already. No company can survive without emulating others!! They all copy! It was somebody that generated d idea of a Phone, calendar in a phone, sending messages using a phone instead letters, Bluetooth in a phone etc..... U don't see them suing all the phone OEMs... Somebody introduced the concept of touchscreen devices... They didn't sue Apple for Multitouch. Its utterly ridiculous suing for rounded corner, slide to unlock and all other insignificant concepts.. This shows that Apple is really afraid of being obsolete and they think samsung may fuel the speed of their demise.

Good job, +1 for you. Apple obviously is menial with their egos and their bloodlust to procure a profit by any underhanded means to the competition they can take. As harsh as that sounds, their actions speak louder than my words.

Are they serious? Apple figures they would have sold x amount of more devices and put that on Samsung?I understand they must come up with a number but that is saying plenty.

"The $1.05 billion that Apple had been awarded by a jury last year was slashed by Judge Koh to the tune of about $450 million, leaving just under $600 million from the verdict intact." I cant believe I missed this lil nugget of info....lol. Wow. Hate to say we told you so....cuz many of us said Apple was not going to see anywhere near 1 billion...

"Apple claims that some of the $380 million sought in the case is due to lost profits, based on the claim that the company might have sold as many as an additional 360,000 more devices if Samsung had played by the rules." So now Apple can tell the future huh..... Samsung has sold millions of Galaxy phones since 2010...many that some claim are iPhone copies. I am glad Apple isnt too arrogant and only think 360,000 iPhone didnt get sold because of Samsung. Still.....Apple can tell the future now huh. Okaaaay... All those hating on Samsung...please look up Meizu phones and come back and tell us who the real iPhone copy cat is. Wild thing is....Apple sued them too...and flat out lost. Sammy needs to get their lawyers or the judge from that case. Those Meizu phones still sell and still look alot like iPhones.....

In what country did Apple sue Meizu? They've lost this same case in numerous countries but almost always come out smelling like a rose in their back yard. Another question that comes to mind is how often does Apple have supply shortages? It seems strange they claim to have missed selling a huge amount of phones when their production & supply chains can't keep up with what they are selling.

Yea they lost it in another country. Its wild tho because the Meizu phones lot alot more like iPhones than anything Samsung has done.
