Apple says difference in the battery life of TSMC and Samsung made A9 chips is only 2% to 3%

Amid talk that the A9 chipset produced by TSMC offers much more battery life than the one manufactured by Samsung, Apple released a statement this afternoon that says the difference in battery life between the two chips on the Apple iPhone 6s and Apple iPhone 6s Plus is no more than 2% to 3%. Samsung's version of the A9 chip is made using the 14nm FinFET process, while TSMC uses the 16nm FinFET process...

The performance is the faster on samsung and real battery life is the same on both

I am glad my work phone is the Samsung one. Hopefully IOS 10 makes use of the 14nm process and smaller chip if IOS9 doesn't. It could also be that since the chip is physically smaller, there might be a gap where it takes the heat longer to reach the heat sink.

Could apple not have separated the chips between the 6s and 6splus? For example, fix samsung chips in 6s and fix TSMC chips in 6s Plus ?

There's seems to be alot more than 2 or 3% difference between the two in all fairness, that Austin guy that tested the two 6s in geekbench 3 battery test on YouTube showed a difference of 5h 10 mins to 3h 30 mins, the 6 only lasted about 3h 10 min for reference, and if you play a top graphics game you will agree. and also the other guy that ran his REAL WORLD use test showed about a 15% difference in favor of the tsmc chip as well, the people and tests are credible, enough of that, it was the same thing last year with the 6 plus not bending and it did, I'm not a fanboy or troll or anything I do have a 6 and was upgrading to the 6s but if i get Samsung chip 1 I'll be really pissed and will be taking it back

Apple also gave a talk time rating of 14 hours and all tests proved it only gives 8 and half to 9 and half hours!

So basically they are confirming the results of Geekbench test where there was a 6% variance. If tolerance is 3% it can go either way (-3 or + 3). So one phone can be -3% or the reference mark and the other at +3% giving you a total of 6% difference in the battery life.

I just love these blogs about how the Samsung A9 is worse than the TSMC A9.. Both chips are using the same architecture (Apple's design) except the Samsung A9 is 14um not 16um. iOS controls the CPU from there so I'm thinking this is nothing more than a Samsung bashing than anything else. LOL

There is 1/16 chance you will get the best iphone: 1. Samsung 14 + mlc + LG ips + Samsung 2GB 2 Samsung 14 + mlc + LG ips + Hynix 2GB . 7. Samsung 14 + tlc + Sharp ips + Hynix 2GB . 10. tsmc 16 +mlc + LG ips +Samsung 2GB . 16. tsmc 16 + tlc + sharp ips + hynix 2GB If tsmc got all the best components and samsung got all the worst, tsmc wins but, if they had same ones, samsung wins typical chinese tactic brainwashing people saying that 16 is better than 14 even tho they can't explain. they will next say their 14 is better than 10 for unknown reasons

Wow wen I think about it.. I'm sure Apple knew the Samsung chip didn't last as long as the other chip... Hehe maybe Apple design the chips that way so they can let the fans hate Samsung more and want the other company chips instead.... Damn Apple is an evil genius.. They kno no matter what the fan gonna buy the phones so letting one perform better than the other would mean the media will say Samsung chips r no good.... Smart move Apple

iphone users are used to low battery life, where's the problem? it won't make any difference for them: they'll have to recharge at lunchtime anyway.

Interesting that even with a bigger "less efficient" fab process, TSMC chip manages to offer both better performance and better battery life. Something does not add up here. Is Samsung fab really that bad? Also PA, the difference you saw is only one out of millions of samples out there. Who knows what the results would be for the others.

You program for the lowest common denominator. Makes sense. Heck, knowing Apple they would be too greedy to make two different brackets for the two different chip sizes. So the bracket probably fits the bugger chip perfectly and is too big for the Samsung one.
